Asst coach

If Syracuse wants a recruiter that knows the recruits and the ACC landscape already without having to start over with fresh blood, then why not give Pastner a shot. He will work his arse off to get back to a head coach job and his recruiting skills will make him shine. He probably won’t be asking for that much money because he probably has a buy out from Georgia Tech. Just a thought.

He will probably want to take some time off before jumping to an asst. coach position. He has to at least pretend like he thinks he can get a HC position somewhere else for optics purposes.

How about Edwards positioning, footwork, ball positioning, & post moves & numbers against practically anyone bigger than him?

Fine, let Griffin coach bigs til the cows come home, even though he would probably rather coach guards.

Anyhow, what we need is the absolute brightest star in recruiting we can get. Would be interesting if that just so happened to be another Boeheim coached player, but I would be fine if it were someone completely different.

Besides watching the movie moneyball, I am not sure what an analytics person could do for college basketball, but hire that too.

Maybe a 'bench coach' too, whatever it is they do.

Red is sealing some deals with JJ, GMAC, Griff, & hopefully Mintz, Jesse, Joe, but at some point he is going to have to put his thinking cap on for these other choices, which are more difficult.
Allen Griffin coached the bigs at Dayton too before he came to SU but also has some experience coaching in his initial years coaching guards and forwards.

what bigs have we had drafted lately ? lydon, raxmas, grant ? need a big man to coach big men. su small guards are not the end all of basketball knowledge.

The “scene” in Syracuse is sorely lacking as opposed to ATL, so….I doubt it.

Haven’t had many guards drafted lately either though. I think it’s a talent issue more than anything. What big players that we’ve had recently were high recruits?

It worked so well for Georgetown.;) Height, playing position etc doesn’t matter with being a great teacher, which is what the best coaches are. Bernie Fine did very well, no one would confuse him as a center. Please link the big men coaches who were college centers themselves that have churned out big center NBA draft phenoms as an assistant? Pete Newell who had the best big man camp for decades was 6’2” tall. The skills coveted in big men in the NBA now have changed over the years too.
