ASU's Patterson To Be New UT AD

Wow, I'm shocked. I had heard late last week from a WVU booster that Luck had directly told many that he had the Texas job. I accept all crow-eating responsibilities for the incorrect info in the thread I started last week.

Luck also said Navy and USAFA were better Football Programs than Syracuse after the ACC thing came out.

Luck is a spin master and an egomaniac.

So, WVU is stuck with Luck. He got them into this mess, let him get them out of it.

Luck back with WVU after the public UT rejection=Awkward

For everything else, there's American Express.

Is it any different from the ACC and SEC rejections of WVU? WVU is still stuck with themselves...and Luck.

I know it was mentioned, but first thing I thought when I heard the news was Patterson will probably lean towards PAC 16 during the next step of realignment.

Patterson will lean to where ever Texas can make more money.

If Pac 12 was smart, they would invite UT, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and BYU/Boise State. ACC should invite WVU with ND. Big 10 should invite Kansas and Kansas State/Iowa State. The teams left out Baylor, TT, TCU and Kansas State/Iowa State should join AAC.

That's what I think. The PAC 12 will be considered, but Patterson has only been at Arizona State for less than 2 years. Most of his experience is in managing Professional Sports Franchises (Houston Rockets, Houston Texans, Portland Trailblazers) with big focus on helping them make money. He's a Texas Graduate and Law School graduate, so he will be more loyal to Texas than to the PAC 12. I'm confident that he will hear from his television partner ESPN that it is more important to get his TV network on the television sets in the Eastern Time Zone than the Pacific Time Zone. But the PAC 12 pitch will be heard.

Texas doesn't need PAC-12 "connections" for goodness sake. Every conference in the country would kill their proverbial grandmothers to add them.

And Oliver Luck can choke on it.

Oklahoma to the B1G

Whatever your smoking, I would advise you to stop...

If they were smart? Larry Scott is a brilliant guy and was thisclose to landing Texas, aTm, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State just a couple years ago. It didn't work out but I'd argue the then PAC-10 was the only conference truly trying to execute a bold vision.

Well put, Scooch. I would add that the PAC also had very limited options. The B1G may have had the research over the last 5 years but they only moved on UNL and got stuck with Rutgers and Maryland, losing out on ALL the big market states they really need.

Texas will do whatever is in Texas' interest. If the LHN works out, ESPN will ensure UT makes the $$ to stay in the Big 12. Texas holds the cards so long as the PAC will not accept OU and posse without UT, Scott tried but was voted down.

If the PAC would accept OU and posse (perhaps Kansas, and two more) then the PAC might be able to force Texas' hand. It cannot be a bluff because Texas still holds the option of calling any conference and getting a slot or rebuilding a conference around itself and keeping the LHN $$.

(recall the LHN has a minimum guarantee to Texas but not a maximum)

Doesn't WVU play Texas this weekend? Awkward.

Perhaps a better way to put it is that Patterson will need no introductions should the Longhorns decide to look West.
