ASU's Patterson To Be New UT AD

That's what I think. The PAC 12 will be considered, but Patterson has only been at Arizona State for less than 2 years. Most of his experience is in managing Professional Sports Franchises (Houston Rockets, Houston Texans, Portland Trailblazers) with big focus on helping them make money. He's a Texas Graduate and Law School graduate, so he will be more loyal to Texas than to the PAC 12. I'm confident that he will hear from his television partner ESPN that it is more important to get his TV network on the television sets in the Eastern Time Zone than the Pacific Time Zone. But the PAC 12 pitch will be heard.

Agreed. This has more to do with salvaging the Longhorn Network then anything else. It's been a dog for UT and ESPN so far. Patterson's forte is marketing.

WVU folks have to have mixed emotions. Yes, they get to keep Luck, but I think they were hoping Luck to TX would help ensure TX and WVU interests were somewhat aligned (which may not have been realistic anyway).

In reality though, after this, I think Luck has to take the next job offered, with a pro franchise or whatever. Hard to imagine he can/will stay around WVU much longer after this. Apparently he told everyone he was getting the job.

Gross might jump at the ASU job. Herm Frazier was mentioned in a Tempe newspaper as well.

Luck should work to get the AD job at Navy.

And choke on it.
