It must be legal, but a bit strange he wouldn’t be a student yet. What happens if he gets hurt?
If he is already enrolled for the next semester would he technically be considered a student in the system? Maybe he's not in any contact drills? Not sure?

Winter classes scheduled from Dec 18 through Jan 10th.

If he's in one of those classes, he's a student. Probably not a coincidence this is the first appearance of a couple of next fall's recruiting class.

It's kind of awesome they can take advantage of that, both academically and athletically. They get the bowl practices, and the full spring over recruits who follow the more traditional August enrollment path.

Players starting now also have a full year's worth of extra credits if they get 3-4 now, a full 12-15 in the spring semester and another 6-8 in the summer, before they even are technically a freshman. No wonder some kids are graduating with two Master's Degrees in 5 short years.

From a personal stand point, I always did better in these compressed winter or summer classes. My biggest obstacle was focus. Three classes a week just left too much time for doing dumb stuff. But running for your life trying to learn, say, organic chemistry, statistics, or physics in three weeks? Right up my alley.
