Class of 2025 ATH Davion Kerr (CT) COMMITTED / SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE (12/4/24)

It must be legal, but a bit strange he wouldn’t be a student yet. What happens if he gets hurt?
kids who play in Aug are not students yet unless they take summer course.

So if you enroll and take course could you then play in the bowl game since its really next year?

Yes they would be enrolled and students at that point, because that's when football players report to camp, or summer school, or workouts whatever. Move in day. The thing I was getting at is if he's not 'enrolled' yet because Spring session hasn't started and he blows out his knee practicing in December (fall semester) who's going to pay for it. If he's enrolled for winter session then he's on Syracuse's dime.

I think the answer to your question is yes.

In the last bowl game we played in Orlando, we had 2 transfers who had sat the entire season out play for us in the bowl game.

Abdul Adams and Trishton Jackson.

They could play because the season ended with the end of the regular season. Bowl games also don’t count against the 4 game limit for losing a year of eligibility.

So I think it is possible for the newbies to play. Being true frosh who just joined the team, it would be impressive if they learned enough to play special teams.

Trish and Adams were transfers. They had to sit out a "year in residence" before they were eligible under the old rules.

They both enrolled for Spring 2018. Since they attended classes in both Spring 2018, and Fall 2018, and the bowl game was scheduled for after the Fall semester ended, their year in exile was over and they were both eligible.

I can't find one example where a kid graduated from HS early, enrolled at a college, and was eligible to play in a bowl game a few weeks later. In theory, a kid can't even practice in pads for almost 2 weeks.

There have been basketball and LAX players who enrolled early, and played in games which were scheduled AFTER the Spring semester started. Never before the start of Spring classes.

Which brother was the higher rated prospect? The 2024 Kerr looks like he could develop into a decent player

It was interesting we brought in the one playing WR to help that side but we ended up having depth there to switch him to DB early on. So clearly some athletic talent. If the brother is pretty close to that that would be nice to have bookend DBs.

I knew all that. Just saying the 2024 season is technically over, at least as far as eligibility is concerned.

True frosh wouldn’t have a clue about the playbook or be remotely ready to play anyway but it is an interesting topic for discussion.

Early enrollees can practice fully (pads are okay) but are ineligible to play in post season games.

Decent article on this…
