Class of 2027 ATH Tristin Hughes (OH) Verbal to Kentucky

Reading this as his attempt to get an OSU offer - I become a tad concerned if Louisville or Kentucky is the choice.

It's just dumb to be all in on commitments from kids this young. I know it looks all great on paper but these 2027s are high school juniors and 28s are sophomores. Of course they're going to look around as they should.
AND you have Fran offer 2031 kids, I mean come on who is Brayden Brown anyway!!!

Then don't "Commit"

My guess would be Louisville or Kentucky before OSU. Although, if he were to get an OSU offer, I’d imagine that would be the choice. In any case, it won’t be Syracuse. 3-9 coupled with total ineptitude really hurt the program’s trajectory under Fran. I hope he can pull out of the tailspin.

Kids are pressed HARD to commit, it's been happen for decades.
I took 4 college visits for baseball and at each one the coaches asked me to commit on the spot multiple times.
Lots of pressure to get your spot and not be left out.
Decades? Not nearly as much as the time we're in.

We are in the information age, of course we see it more now.
In the 80s and 90s you really didn't get to see much of the recruiting side of things.
You still had schools trying to get kids to come to them and decommit from other schoools.
I do agree with NIL and the free transfers we have seen it go up a tick.

Tailspin?

The pressure is even greater now with NIL and the portal.

recruiting of high school kids has dropped substantially.

If you get offered now, you almost have to commit in order to hold your spot while you continue your search even if you're not 100% on board. And all of the coaches are bringing this up. Coach Brown included.

But how can we fault these student athletes? Think about when you all were choosing colleges, I bet you flipped a bunch.

We also can relate to job searches...how many of us have been doing job searches got an offer from one company and taken it, only to get another offer from another company where you just feel you fit better and we go with that and leave the others behind.

Cant get mad at these young athletes who are literally kids for making difficult decisions.

Yeah that all makes sense and can see why it's worse now

Kids are going to commit and decommit. He likely won’t be the last. It is what it is. That’s the landscape. Until they sign their name on early signing day they may leave. If we prove to do better than expected this fall we’ll get some adds then who may be decommitting from elsewhere. But we have a bunch of other solid kids OV’ing. We’ll pick up more good recruits. Just got to get used to it being fluid.

Agree. My only issue has always been don’t commit. Check out every school and opportunity before committing.

Sadly with the portal now kids are being pressed with the "you don't want to lose your place" song and dance.
Which I feel lets to premature commiting and we all know that's not a good thing ;)

It's a little thing, but one that bothers me and is a small indicator of college athletics culture now. Know the name of the school that you commit to or that you thank for offering you. I'm not so naive to believe that the actual school and its programs is a driving factor in today's process. But, since these kids are now professionals, act like it. Proofread your stuff (or make sure your agent does), and get the damn name straight.

Can you imagine applying to a job and you address the company by the wrong name?
