Auburn fires Bryan Harsin / hiring Hugh Freeze

And a flag on each seat and an appearance by Pataki.
I flew up from Atlanta and the airport was full of national guard troops holding weapons at the ready.

In the lead-up to the game the Auburn QB promised his line a steak dinner for each if they kept him from getting sacked. They were cocky that Freeney couldn't get him. Freeney sacked the Auburn QB on their first offensive play (which was nullified by a penalty if I recall). Blew past the OT like he was a statue.

We were the ones who ended up eating.

I have no idea why any coach with loads of options would want the Auburn job. They’re structured in a way that their boosters have more clout than at other schools, which is an issue since their boosters are also insane with wildly unrealistic expectations.

Lane is a great coach, but his personality would grate on Auburn boosters and I don’t think he could win fast enough or often enough to avoid being fired within 3 years.
AMOF, one big booster who was also on the Board of Trustees had so much clout about hirings and firings on the academic side that they almost lost their accreditation. Apparently he wasn't satisfied with having a big say in having a coach fired that he tried to get the president of Auburn fired, too.

Would Lanning leave Oregon for Auburn? If he did what does that say about Oregon? You think of them as a good program, but the P12 is dying and this would be the 3rd straight HC poached.

From 1977 through 2008 they had only 2 HCs. Now they might be onto their 6th HC from 2009 through 2023.

I had 2 guys from Auburn sitting behind me running their mouths before kickoff. Halfway through the third quarter they were calling the airlines to get flights back to Auburn asap, even though they had hotel reservations for that night. It was glorious

Why would he? The last 2 guys that did it fell flat on their face. Auburn was ready to fire Harsin in year 1-tells you all you need to know.

I would hire Coach Prime! Why not, circus there anyway he will thrive in it. He will hire a great staff and recruit very well. I don't hate Saban but really don't want to see Brian Kelly win a title.

I think they hire Rhule

Hugh Freeze is the clear best hire for Auburn. He definitely wants the gig, he is a sleazebag and he wins. Perfect fit.

Yes, but - can Auburn handle his junk like Jesus can? :p

If the bag is big enough, the talent is easier to get

According to Hugh not even Jesus can handle his Junk so that has to make him a perfect fit for the cesspool known as Auburn

Was this the guy that the boosters pulled a Steinbrenner and hired a PI to try and get some dirt so they could fire with cause and save the buyout?
They actually just made up the dirt to try and get him fired. Fabricated a story about an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer...

I saw the pics of the staffer. wow. anyway, it was a completely horrible thing on their part, imagine being him coaching after that? I know no one is feeling sorry for a guy getting a $15 mil buyout, but the hell that they put him and his family through is beyond inexcusable.

Wow as in a 10 or wow as in a 2?

Auburn boosters are among the very few most fickle and downright insane, as well as dirty, in the country. If someone who knows about Auburn takes the job and is not desperate to be a P5 or SEC HC, then I pity him his ignorance of what he has stepped into.

As I said once before their boosters are so out of control, one nearly go the school's accreditation lifted by the Southern Assn. because, as a Trustee, he messed around with the academic side of the house so much.

I think it's decently well known that 2 or 3 boosters called most of the shots in Auburn up until at least a decade ago. Today, there are probably still people calling the shots. To what degree/influence, who knows.

However, Auburn is still Auburn, and if a coach is willing to take the chance (while at the same time getting paid very well), he has the resources, backing, conference, recruiting base, etc. to become a true contender for a national championship almost overnight... only a handful of schools can say/do that. (e.g. it's debatable if Oregon can even get over the hump again, despite the resources the school has)

I don't cheer for Auburn (i'm kind of neutral on them, but enjoy their craziness, especially their hatred for Bama), but only a handful of schools are positioned to do that. Someone will be willing to take a chance.
