babers is weird and gives up too much

Dino is a totally different coach than he was from 2016-2018. Yes no Dungey and yes Tommy stinks but you still don’t quit late in a game. Shafer did that and we deservedly crucified him for it. Ditto here. Stop coaching like a little chickensh** beeotch, no matter who your QB is. Freaking Mahoney threw 100 touchdowns against Pitt, how good was he? And yes I loved him too, just to be clear. Gilbert sucks, Dino sucks. We have a good D and enough on offense to be competent.
The belief without evidence guy quits when he doesn't see evidence

are you talking about the punter substitution? That to me might have been the single dumbest decision of the day. We survived it but that’s a play that could actually have cost us the game. that decision alone has sort of pushed me to the other side of the fence right now, I can’t have confidence in a coach who somehow thinks that decision was going to give us some sort of tactical advantage.
Yep exactly

They maximize the amount of time they have any chance. And they stupidly think the game is over if they fail to convert, like those thirty yards are everything

But I don't think that's what he was doing

He just quit, he is a little nutty, he hates the offense, he had enough

He looked that way all last season, like he was just phoning it in.

I see that hasn't changed a bit.

4th and 10 is really hard

I would rather try to get a stop. Try to score. Get an on sides kick and try to score again, all of which is apparently easier than converting the 4th and 10

if that’s what he said then I fear I’m done. I knew at the time it did not matter either way going for it and likely not getting it or punting I knew the final outcome was going to be the same. But I definitely have a problem with his logic. I don’t want a coach who thinks like that.

He looked that way in 2019 as well. Guess a phat contract extension offers someone that luxury

Yeh it certainly has that appearance. Also I don’t understand this whole “we have to watch the tape first” nonsense. Basically admitting to being unable to see things live and adjust. Shameful
I read that more as trying to choose his words carefully and not getting caught in a gotcha moment or losing his cool and going off in the presser.

I do have a hard time believing that he didn’t see Schiano acting like a fool across the field.

There was that one but also a couple regarding plays that he couldn’t comment on. I feel like if you asked Dino where the issues were he’d need to look at tape. It’s fairly obvious to anyone watching.

I thought there was zero chance we get that 4th and 10 with TD at QB the way he was playing. So I thought we were better off punting. The D had better than a 0.0% chance of getting the ball back in good field position. The bigger issue for me was having TD in the game at that point.

If you're better off punting there, just take the team off the field. Get in the locker room, shower up, beat the traffic home.

During one of Dino's coaches shows, I think last year around this time, they asked Dino about the NFL game the night before, Dino commented that he doesn't have time to watch NFL. That really bothered me. Here you have tape of the best minds in football, their decision making, how they design plays, and exploit weaknesses of the opposition, and you can't find the time to watch any of this? Not even a few games here or there on the DVR as time permits?

That is just one thing, but the bottom line with Dino is he's just not getting better at being a head coach. He's making the same game management mistakes, running the same plays, and having game plans that are not working. His recruiting hasn't improved much, if at all, either.

I really just don't see him changing or improving at this point. I don't know if it's worth cutting him loose now or later, but seems like the writing is on the wall. I guess you let him ride out the season unless Tony White is a possibility and you want to see what he can do as a HC.

But even if the D gets a 3 and out, you’re going to get the ball back in (most likely) worse field position than you had on 4th down, and with either 3 fewer minutes on the game clock or 3 fewer timeouts. It was a bad decision for any coach who cared even one iota about trying to win the game.

Even worse than that, though... I just can’t believe in year 6 of Dino Babers’s tenure here we are even debating the merits of a punt from the opponent’s side if the 50 in the waning moments of a 17-7 rock fight. It pains me to my core.

Yes yes yes, this is not what he is here for.

If he put the backup Punter into the game there to throw it on 4th down (not a fake punt but as QB) I would be all for going for it. But with TD there was no point.

Basically the complete opposite of JB, except maybe in stubbornness.
