Babers

HCDB needs to hire a recruiting specialist who can beat the likes of Maryland, Georgia Tech, Pitt for players... basically our peer schools. Unless he can start recruiting at the level of peer schools we are going to be dependent on an alignment of talent across positions that happens once every leap year or so to challenge for top 25 status. Last year with a senior qb and talent in the dline turned out to be one of those years.

I typically don’t follow recruiting that closely but I know we have been missing on a number of a list targets. Wasn’t concerned before, but watching us get out-athleted makes me concerned.

I’m also a bit quizzical as to why he hired his in-law as qb coach... we haven’t gotten any Texas recruits, seemingly missed out on our a list qb recruits and our QB seems to be not ready to start.

A recruiting specialists? Is that code word for bag man?

Hey it could be worse, just ask a Vols fan

Asked you in another thread that you must have missed, what cruise ship you going on?

Agree with what’s been posted so far. He should be nowhere near a hot seat, but a game like this, in Year 4 is worthy of some serious criticism.

The defense has talent and was a complete no show. Even worse, they were manhandled at the point of attack and looked both confused and disinterested all game.

The offense is a referendum on Dino. This is his offense, his players and his system. Many here worried about his recruiting rankings, and in a game like today, that worry is as present as ever.

He had a great year with a great collegiate QB that he didn’t recruit.

This is is his show. Pocket passer, with his recruits on the OL and at skill positions.

Coaching/System can mask talent deficiencies, but the worry after today is, did Eric Dungey, and a weak schedule mask that?

This is was a G-Rob era game that none of us saw coming, especially in such a big moment.

Dino should have our trust right now, but he’s also worthy of our criticism.
Said differently: “Dungy was pretty good.”

44cuse

Dino needs to own the road woes and occasional no shows by his team. 10 win seasons are the oddity but we should expect 8 and I still do with our schedule. Last year was the fluke

A second swag daddy would be pretty big.

Also... the Texas coach thing is something that doesn't get talked about much, but I do wonder about.

You guys all know I'm a Babers guy. I wouldn't worry about this game. You guys were probably looking ahead and it showed. I still think you have a great season. This is only a small set back.

Honestly yesterday reminded me of an old school “Clemsoning” that one-two games a year that you guys went through for 5-6 years running before you broke through the top. Our program isn’t really that far from where you were when you first started to become a force of a program. Guys would expect a win, didn’t work enough for it and there was a lack of elite talent, so there was a lack of consistency in the play.

We didn’t show up yesterday, and frankly I think everyone expected there to be a What performance this year, because we all know really arent an elite team. We can play with the big boys but we aren’t ready to do it every week.

I’m expecting a drastically different performance next week at home. Sad part is our defense could play 100x better and still give up 35 to Clemson. I expect we will see more of the same from tommy and the offense. They just need more time and for now it will be inconsistent. Tommy will have a few What throws and then a few OMG how did he do that?? Throws. As time goes on we will get less of the former and more of the latter.

Some of the teams on our schedule look a lot less beatable looking through the lens of yesterday's beat down.

The offense has been way less consistent over the last 4 years than expected. What has happened to the middle of the field for us on offense?

You should stop being so concerned over the offense. They didn't give up 63 points. My guess is that if the defense made the trip and held them to around 30, we win the game. The additional possessions would have netted at least a couple of more scores, TDV would have gone over 400, maybe somebody would have broken a run(maybe not), and everybody would have been looking to next week. Alas, the defense was very bad and the offense was always playing from far behind, and all the posters here that must be a riot at parties are out in force. How do their eyes adjust to the light, I wonder?

That game was over at the half. The offense put up 13 points, but also an interception, a fumble by Devito, a couple of 3 and outs, short passes that went nowhere. Great on 2 drives - pathetic on the other possessions.

When the offense cannot move it puts additional pressure on a defense. When you’re catching haymakers an INT/fumble and 3outs are not what you need and that’s what we got.

The Defense being so bad made us drop the running game early (IMO a bit too early), making us one-dimensional.

He said this loss was on him = owning it

Seems like one game a year on the no-shows (last year’s Pitt game IMO). But he also seems to get one or two we’re not expecting.

Babers had a lousy game calling plays.

The DBs were keying on the screens and flat passes and the seams were gaping the entire first half. He did not exploit that until we were in a big hole. And the D...I have no idea.

But I can still love and believe in the guy 100% and maintain that.

He isn't the only one calling plays, but I agree some of the play calling was off.

Good post. This is not directly related to your post, but something that bothered me last week and today was the lack of pace on offense.

This, and on a much more micro- level, I was amazed that they ran the clock out to end the half. Classic meathead football move, I thought Dino was better than that.

13 points isn't enough to win! Try to score.

The defense did absolutely NOTHING to stem the tide, save for Cisco's brilliant INT. Maryland punted 3 out of 13 possessions and I'm not sure any of them were 3 and outs, yet you seem to think the defense wasn't a primary reason for the loss? You could turn your statement around and say the defense needed to force a few 3 and outs to get the offense back on the field, too. Bottom line is that the offense far outperformed our defense. We averaged 466 yds/game last year and got 400 yesterday with limited possessions. How can you say the offense is the reason we lost? Just crazy.

Huh? We were 11th in the country in ppg last year.

We have been grinding drives out (hence the BC comment). We are putting up points because of pace.

For comparison Baylor years 2-4 under Briles, who took over a bigger mess.
