Barkley picks Cal

I doubt I was classify anyone as clinically insane for picking Cal, but Barkley and Davis have been betting on the wrong ponies all Tournament.
In Barkley's case...judging from his gambling history...he's been betting on the wrong ponies most of his adult life!

Scouting report on Cal please?

My apologies if you did this in another thread, but I haven't seen it yet.

Here are some thoughts I had mentioned:

- this team certainly are playing better and with more cohesiveness since they had the Montgomery/Crabee meltdown on the floor a few weeks ago. Crabbe is the Pac 12 player of the year and is very talented at both scoring and distributing.

- They dont have many scoring options on this team outside of Crabbe and Cobbs and of these guys get into foul trouble or get cold they do not have that third scoring option that can carry them through a game if they struggle putting the ball in the basket. The one guy who has stepped up at times is Tyronne Wallace and could be the guy they need to score if the start struggle.

- Their guards do like to penetrate and get to the basket and we will need to certainly keep them from attacking into the interior of our zone. One thing that cant happen is for them to get their bigs involved. If that happens it could be a long day for us as their guards will get theirs. Let the guards get their points and shut down the guys inside.

- both guards are EXCELLENT FT shooters and we cant give these two FT opportunities. This could hurt us if we are down and have to foul to get back in the game,

- defensively we need to force them into perimeter shots and dont let them get to the basket. Contest their shots and let them have their looks which will keep them outside of the interior. They do not shoot the ball well from behind the arc so I expect to see us let them fire away which should play right into our hands.

-Krabish and Solomon are decent big men who do a good job in protecting the paint area. We will not have an easy time getting points in the paint and must find ways to score (need to turn them over and get fast break points) if we are not hitting out outside shots.

Bottom line is we need to jump on this team and make them play catch up. Allowing them to play with the lead and let them get easy baskets will be a difficult task to overcome (see UNLV game). Make them shoot their way back into the game by really defending and not allowing them their guards to penetrate and dish will go along way to advancing to the sweet 16.

Eek, doesn't sound too good. What's your ultimate prediction? A 10-15pt win if we're on our game? Can we beat this team playing our "B" game?

I am very confident. UNLV really played a terrible game and still almost won which is why I was rooting for Cal. I compare this game to the Arizona State game back 4 years ago. Same type of team that we just are more talented then and as long as we defend we should get our points and handle them. I dont see their guards being able to penetrate and dish to their bigs like they were able to do against UNLV. The reason why Thurman for them got 12 points (he only averages 4 a game) was because their guards were able to penetrate at will and he was 6-6 from the floor mostly on east dunks.

If we play like we have played the past 5 games (minus the last 15 minutes against Louisville) we will be fine.

Why does everybody worry about how the opponent will attack us? Like Montana, Cal will be systematically disemboweled by 'Cuse on the offensive end.

Because it's March and the next loss is the last one. Comparing Cal to Montana is silly.

Kenny Smith said he doesn't think Syracuse has the attention span for long term goals, but they've been really good on short-term goals, he said he sees the next 5 games a short-term goal, "they're primed".

At least 1 CBS person believes!

Charles Barkley knows less about college basketball than any poster on this board knows about any conceivable topic. I could pick a random poster out of a hat, and ask them to tell me everything they know about nuclear astrophysics, and they would know more about that than Barkley does college hoops.
I scared the kids at Barnes and Nobel barking out a long loud laugh at this! Especially funny when someone DID explain the nuclear astrophysics.
