Battle, Brissett have to be much, much better

Cuse/ Battle-Brissett miss FH. Carey will be good player down the road. He made no one better tonight, no one! His point total will fool some people, but when UCONN wasnt turning him over, he took forever getting into the offense. Moving forward w healthy FH, JC plays max 18 min/gm.

He's a combo guard, not a pure point. Why does Battle need Frank? He didn't have any trouble creating for himself last year. How about going to the rim more?

Carey was the only player in this game that looked like he wasn't playing in 4 inches of mud. Battle and Brissett glided around like they were there to get their pictures taken. FH wasn't there and as GOSU said, needed them to step up not out. Hope they learned from this.

Another thing...when a guy drives to the hoop offensively, feel free to pass to the offensive guy whose defensive guy came over to help because watching these inept drives to the basket is as frustrating as watching all the one on one moves and shots. I really hoped they'd learn how to pass the ball in Franks absence but it seems like the ball movement has gotten worse.

Until there's some semblance of structure within the offense, it won't get better. Terrible discipline and way too much one-on-one.

I don't buy Howard as the answer, either. Goes much deeper than that.

So he doesn’t have to take over the bulk of ballhandling duties and can catch the ball and look to attack? Like with Frank last year?

He did the same last year with Frank in the lineup or did you skim through the games?

It goes deeper than that. Howard will certainly help. I don’t really see how that can be questioned? Tyus has often looked out of sync. Because he’s playing out of positon probably? Frank frees up our best player to play his normal role. Frank is our best PG on both ends of the court. Adds another 3 point shooter and better passing to our lineup. Also frees up Carey to go off the ball when he’s in and just attack, like he did in the second half yesterday.

Both have one foot in the NBA.

The more I see Brissett the more I don't think he has a chance. It is possible to be extremely athletic and have the height to be a basketball player and not have NBA talent.

Disappointed in Brissett. He did have that clean 3 early that rimmed out, felt like a shot that if it fell would've changed things.

Losing to a mid-major stinks.

JB may need to give Oshae the Paul Harris treatment. We don’t need him taking 5+ threes every game.

OB has shown his ability and worth to the team last season and so much that he's got a lot of eyes on him, he's in the most crucial year of his life to date, I'll give him a few passes early season as long as long as he finds his form for ACC play. When does the offense being so stagnant effect recruiting more than playing the zone? When our back is against the wall it's individual talent propelling our coach to the win or the loss. Hurley had quite the presence tonight and actually seemed to be influencing calls left and right compared to JB not getting anything going his way. Is it bad that I wouldn't mind seeing him finally leave the mid majors behind in a few years?

I'd reckon we all are.

OB hired a private shooting coach and spent the summer in Vegas to improve his shot. JB gave him the opportunity to showcase his "improved" shooting stroke. So we lost a couple of games in mid-November to brand name teams...who cares?!?! If OB realized he is NOT a 3-point shooter and agrees to play in the paint going forward then this was a successful 2-game stretch.

and marek off the bench doesn't seem to be getting into the flow at all.
would you??? it appears to me that jb has told not to shoot the just look to pass. he needs to score in order to create other opportunities. there is soooooo much wrong with this team.

Hughes was playing hero ball and forcing some crazy shots,
Brissett looked completely out of it,
Chukwu got badly outplayed and
Battle was not aggressive until it was too late,

Jalen Carey was the lone bright spot with his shot making tonight... could of done without all the turnovers, but it's hard to complain about the kid considering everyone else sucked arse!

Overall a very frustrating game!
Agreed Hard to know what's going on. Brissett looks like a different player Carey is terrific. Hard to see a final four team from this ?

Frank will pick up the offense and even more importantly, the defense. These guys are lost in their roles for some reason and it's Franks job to start redirecting this once he returns. Folks...he may be the Cuse MVP.

"After looking at this," he (oshae) said, glancing at the stat sheet, "if I could go back in time I'd say 'Don't take any 3s tonight.' But I can't do that."

I wish somebody would tell Battle that he is our franchise player. Take control!!!! And somebody tell Oshae that he should never ever have 9 3 point attempts in one game. Smh

This is all nice in theory but, redirect what?! I know we’ll be somewhat better with him, especially defensively but these are excuses that are getting tiring. It would be one thing if we were a high skill/movememt offense with a big playbook but we aren’t. Jalen was passing to the same guys Frank would be. The guys then do their 1-on-1 rinse ‘n repeat business. Then the ball would most likely get passed back to Jalen/Frank with the shot clock winding down. It’s comical how when the guys get the ball they all gotta get their globetrotter dribbling exhibitions in wasting time before passing to the next guy to get his in. The the shot clock winds down and we gotta actually try to do something. Usually a bad shot towards the end of the clock. We were seeing the SAME offense with Frank QB-ing it last year. Easily the worst in the P5. This year there are a few more players but it’s the same offense.

It got better as the season progressed (near the end) as did the D. Frank opens up the O a bit differently and can take a smaller guard down low. We'll see SBC soon enough if this is so.
