BC HC Jeff Hafley was on WEEI

That is the problem. It was all Dungey. That is the 10-3 record right there. One key player, the QB, had a terrific season and propelled the team to 10 wins. Eric was great. But he is gone. I see none of the same qualities in Devito. Perhaps he develops. Perhaps not. This season is critical.

But the other 3 seasons Dino is only 13-23. This is a big year. I think 5-5 would be fine. It is all confetence games. Which makes things tougher. But say we get 2-8 or 3-7. That is four bad years out of 5. It will be hard to point to recruits there is light at end of tunnel. You can try to sell it, but will they buy it?

We had a pretty good group of seniors, it wasn't all Dungey. can we stop with that. I know you have your finger on the pulse of recruiting and NFL talent evaluation but that was really good group. Not NFL talent but a really good group of college seniors.

Again, if you are waiting for top 25 recruiting classes at Syracuse don't hold your breath

It’s called recruiting. Every kid we get people say he’s another diamond in the rough. They are not. Until we recruit high 3’s and 4-5 4’s every year we will continue to struggle. Complain about recruiting numbers, but teams who get 4 and 5 level recruits win. The only exception is Miami.

Not happening.

With you on the no longer can blame Shafer. This is all Dino's baby now.

This is true.

But in the interest in keeping this on track, Hay-fly inherited more. Let's see him take down a ranked opponent in year 1, a top 2 ranked Clemson in year 2, a ten win season in year 3.
Hay-fly will have my respect if he gets them that far - until then it's all hype.

It’s Dino’s baby now. Doesn’t change the fact he inherited a mess from Scott Shafer.

Babers deserves some criticism it doesn’t change the fact the hiring of Scott Shafer and his 3 years as SU HC were overall a huge negative for the direction of the program but you can still stand with Shaf.

That is a big part of our problem that some fans have not and refuse to acknowledge. The team expectations last year after 10-3 refused to give ED credit for overcoming multiple deficiencies on offense from the oline to the staff's inability to find, develop, and insert wrs the quality of Ishmael and Phillips. It's a fact fellas and didn't see much wr development last year. Devito can be good but so far hasn't shown that in game moxy when his first read isn't there. ED stamped that 10-3.

One deficiency Eric helped hide was a running game. Eric wS the running game. His mobility is missed

Well if opposing coaches are saying our talent is worse than a few years ago and he inherited a mess, what does that make us now?

It’s unproven talent.
Also our talent has gotten better which speaks volumes to how low it was when he inherited the roster.

Our problem has been getting 4 star commits.

Regardless of opinions on Shafer he has been gone 5 years. There has to be a statute of limitations in the blame game. Where do you draw the line? 10 years? 12 years?

By Year 5 you have matriculated through a full group. I think that is long enough to give a pass yo the old former coach. Just being fair.

No denying Shafer made some bad decisions as head coach, but five years in its totally now Babers team and results. I really hope those results are on the upswing. I believe the change in defensive coaching philosophy will be a positive step.
Offensively the line must be better, I expected last years line to be worse just not quite as bad as they were at least early in the season.

I do not buy into what the opposition says, the proof will be seen on the field soon enough.

yeah and very well could be narduzzi just bad mouthing the program because we fired his boy shafer. For the most part, You’re not dealing with the worlds most evolved species here when it comes to college football coaches. Lot of beefcakes and narduzzi seems like example 1A

Just as far as recruiting though, Pitt is curremtly ranked #6 by 24/7 in ACC. That is very good. With 2 four stars and several high 3 stars. Another guy who I think will recruit well in the ACC...not a Northeast school, but an impressive quick turnaround...is the new Louisville coach. Satterfield was a great hire. Like what he is doing.
Petrino, like Fedora at UNC, had literally driven the bus off the cliff. Both FB programs were in tatters. Yet both have turned recruiting around very fast. Louisville is #5 in ACC. It can be done. Poor recruiting foes not have to be a fait accompli

Louisville and UNC have always out recruited Syracuse, I don't see your point?

UNC recruited very poorly recently under Fedora. Ditto for Petrino. You make the fundrmetal error that most fans make. You focus on the school...oh, that school just recruits better.

It is the coach! The only party to blame for poor recruiting is the coach. This is Year 5 for Dino. Time to step it up as far as recruiting! Do you get the point now?

And your point would be wrong, I grabbed this from one of Phat's posts in another thread
"nah I've looked at UNC for the past 10 years and they recruit in the top 35 every year. 3 top 25 finishes and 2 top 20 finishes during that time. They'll finish around #20 this year. (by the way, the State of North Carolina has 14 four star prospects this year. In other words the state has a lot of talent.)

LVille usually recruits top 40 with 3 classes in the top 30 over 10 years. They're in a unique geographical spot and their ranking this year is with a new coach (first full recruiting season) who's well connected in the South. Lets see where they go from here. "

In addition to that, recruiting comes down to geography and the product you are selling. I don't think it's easy whatsoever to recruit at Syracuse, it's more difficult than most places. Sure it depends a lot on the head coach but I am at the point that if Dino can't get better talent I don't think 9 out of 10 coaches would do much better if at all. Anyone waiting for an abundance of 4 stars at Syracuse is barking up the wrong tree. It's never happened here before and most likely never will. Recruit for your system, develop and work your plan. Strength and conditioning and when Syracuse has a good group of upper classmen you will see some very good seasons. I don't think it's a coincidence that the two best teams we have had in the last 15 years have had a really good group of seniors.

Just my opinion but the merry go round of head coaches hasn't helped either.

Also as a follow up in the last 5 years Lville has 19 kids drafted in the NFL, UNC 13. I don't think it was their recruiting that stunk to compete at a fairly high level. Syracuse has had what 5? and two of them were punters. Now, if you can honestly say you just think this is because their former head coaches were just better recruiters than Dino, I don't buy that for a second. It's what they have available to sell, their geography and also probably some more liberal acceptance practices. I am just so sick of the same argument.

Both the Lville and UNC coaches were fired because first and foremost they didn't win enough and lost their respective programs. Petrino's kids just quit on him

I did. Look at his record and the performances of those recruits. They were not good. By the way...Rivals is a joke
