Before we totally freak out...

At the start of next season Rex will be a true freshman who hasn't played a down of regular season football for over a year with a new ACL...

1) He's got plenty of time to recover. Granted, you don't want an ACL injury to happen, but sports medicine has advanced significantly and ACL injuries aren't what they used to be.

2) He's enrolling early. He'll have plenty of time to learn the playbook and he'll be able to participate in spring practice barring any issues with his recovery.

3) He was offered at QB by the likes of Clemson, Florida, Ohio St., and Miami as a QB

I will take true frosh like that all day long over a 4th stringer who continues to be an interception machine and a 5th stringer who is a walk-on JUCO.

Hell we already chalked up last season on injuries, might as well add this one too.

You realize other teams have injuries as well?
Are you kidding me?! that is not an excuse. playing past your 2nd string qb would be detrimental for any team (except ohio state)

Technically we played our 5th string QB walk on ... think about it ... no Hunt, no Dungey, no Long, Wilson tanked and went to Mahoney ... and people are bitching after we still gut out a win ... unfreakin real

Also, Kimble transferred...Kimble would've been above Mahoney.

For those who know me, I'm pretty level headed and I was upset as anyone how this game unfolded, BUT do me and all REAL fans a favor take the Cuse out of your handle and stop following this team. I have season tickets and there is a lot to like about this team and the future that includes the staff. If you can't see that and the problems that affected t his game, then you really should step away from watching and commenting.
Ah, yes, the old "you're not a real fan" because I don't unconditionally support everything and anything Cuse. REAL fans don't call out other fans just because of disagreements. Get over yourself.

The problem I have with you and the others like you, is that you insist on only seeing gray clouds. The coaching sucks, the players suck, the play calling sucks, the crowd sucks. You refuse to consider the possibility that you might be wrong or you have some agenda to support some earlier stand you took (anti-Shafer, for example?). There is a lot to like about this team. We have coaches with principles that care about the kids and helping them turn into good men. Yes, that matters to me. They are growing as coaches, and although there are some deficiencies, the trend is upward. I very much like the new offensive system. We have quality players with a ton of heart and I can also be proud of that. The talent level is on the rise, and that is undeniable. The new AD is genuinely working to undo the damage and neglect the former ADs did. Everything seems to be on an upward trajectory, and yet your group (yes, there is a group) insist that we are all deluded fans because we see positive growth, all the while insisting that your view is the real view.

I've been around quite a while; certainly long enough to know the world is full of people like you, Ano, and all the others. My question is why do you have to piss in my oatmeal? Woody Allen described the view of people like you best in his movie "Annie Hall". He said: "Life is divided into the horrible and the miserable."

I think we have a great young QB and another potentially great one on the way (Culpepper), and that is huge.

I think our skill positions are getting on an ACC level. Ishmael, Estime, Erv, Fredericks and I haven't seen a WR make a catch like Custis made in a long time for us.

I don't understand how our defense can be so out of control, out of sorts, undisciplined in Year 3. This isn't just a "they're young" issue, this has been going on since Shafer took over. I can handle it, kind of, when its a Clemson, FSU, ND etc.. Not CMU. I don't care how good their QB may be.

Can we start beating our peer group teams? That will convince a lot of us. Take out LSU and FSU/Clemson, everyone else we should have a great chance at beating and with Dungey, I think we do.

You're right, I don't like Shafer, I think he's small time so that may amplify my frustration with games like yesterday but I'm open to him winning me over. You can't deny that he's done nothing to win anyone but his blind supporters over as of yet..

Nobody has ever said he has done nothing wrong. That is a complete fabrication on your part. Seek help.

Alpha orange said it well, but I'm not calling you out for unconditionally supporting everything Cuse. I'm calling you out for calling out fans who go to the games, exaggerating beyond hyperbole ("one of the most embarrassing performances ever seen") and comments that we played on a high school level.

Btw, you called out fans for having seasons and for supporting this team, this staff. Yes I am fiercely loyal and will always go to games. I am an alumni and I am a fan. I support these kids, the band, the cheerleaders, the football coaches and staff who devote untold hours of hard work to try their best to provide me with untold memories (some good, some bad; some unbelievable, some heartbreaking). I go to support them and sometimes they fail, but I don't call them out and I don't derive some negative thrill in calling them out on a message board. No one hurts more than they do when they make a mistake, not you or I. They are already icing their aching muscles and bones and watching film to try to fix those errors and hopefully not make them again the next time. Oh I also go and have season tickets to see old friends / meet new ones at the tailgate and be around other real fans who while we question certain things we see but we also see a bright future for this team, this program and this staff.

So I stand by my original post and will not "get over myself."

Top 40 D's every year but one. Bullough has been just as good.

The system demands a lot of its secondary. We'll give up pass plays in a trade off for TO's.

I missed your post about being #3 nationally in turnover margin?

If you have watched the talent coming from the youth on this team, there is every reason in the world to get excited. Dungey's upside is ridiculous, and they're just starting to scratch the surface with his talent. Fredricks is a true freshman who, in my opinion, looks like the best back on the team right now. Irv Phillips needs to get healthy, and he can do a lot of things. Ishmael is the real deal at WR. He'll turn out to be a recruiting coup. All those names I mentioned on offense are Freshman and sophomores. What is not to get excited about. Our defense is young too, and it shows. The defense will catch up with the talent we're bringing in on offense at some point.
Let's not also forget that Shaefer is also young, and learning as he goes. This is only his 3rd year as a H.C. There has to be a learning curve. Coach Mac won 12 hgames in his first 3 years. I'm sure people were calling him incompetent too. 30 years later, we look back on him as if he were a God.
