One of the more important hires we will want is Ben Lee. Looks to be Gerrys #1 assistant at Siena and also was an assistant under Hop. Played college basketball at Union so has strong NY ties. Looks like he'll be a strong candidate to get the HC job at Siena, but hopefully we can get lucky and he comes with Gerry to SU.

If Lee is really that good, Gerry should try to bring him to Syracuse. But, for Lee’s long term prospects of becoming a head coach at a big program, taking the head coach job at Siena is the way to go.

At just 29, I’d argue SU for a year or two would be a better move. Get a nice pay bump help with a major turnaround and then go. It’s a generational thing to be in a rush but its a big shift at that age coaching guys not much younger and having to be the bad cop.

I dont think you pass up a chance at a HC job. Asst jobs will always be there

Maybe but it’s a higher risk being he would be likely the second or third youngest coach in all of CBB. I get striking when the opportunity is there too. I expect there might be some competition here with that job looking more attractive after the turnaround.

29 seems to young to be head coach. I wonder if Blackwell is even being considered? Tagging along with Gerry makes sense, help to turn the program around and then leave for a HC job after 2 or 3 years.

what would be tough for lee, or anyone taking the siena job, is that he likely loses what would be a great great backcourt at that level. doty and moesch. and possibly folefac.

That too- it’s a lot to ask to take the job and rebuild a roster where you lose all of that for such a young coach. You want to set yourself up for success and not sure that taking that job or going for it is really doing that at all.

supposedly a great recruiter at that level in particular, gerry's right hand man in film breakdown and devising a gameplan. and gerrys analytical guy.
and coaches the guards.

That’s any job now, especially at the lower levels

I read a story about him in one of the local papers and it said that he literally stayed in his office from the moment he learned Duke was Siena's opponent till he met with the coaching staff the next morning. Grabbed a few zzs on the floor. Spent all that time looking at recent Duke games and any games Duke had with teams that did similar things to what Siena could do. It was his job to present weaknesses and opportunities that Siena could exploit.
Gerry said it was Ben who came up with the ultimately brilliant idea to put Folefac on Merrimack's Kennedy who had just won MAAC player of the year in the championship game.

I want Lee and then I want Tyson (sorry got carried away with an old reference)
