Ben Lee (Assistant at Siena)

if i were him i wuld wanna be a head coach at siena over assistant at SU...for his sake
I tentatively agree, but getting his first head coach job at Siena and failing is a potential career killer.

Being an assistant at Syracuse probably pays about the same, and if it works out, his trajectory continues up… If he fails, GMAC takes the majority of the blame, and his career isn't hurt.

Of course, even smart competitive people don't think that way. He thinks he'll succeed. I imagine he'll take the job if they offer him.

I read a story about him in one of the local papers and it said that he literally stayed in his office from the moment he learned Duke was Siena's opponent till he met with the coaching staff the next morning. Grabbed a few zzs on the floor. Spent all that time looking at recent Duke games and any games Duke had with teams that did similar things to what Siena could do. It was his job to present weaknesses and opportunities that Siena could exploit.
Gerry said it was Ben who came up with the ultimately brilliant idea to put Folefac on Merrimack's Kennedy who had just won MAAC player of the year in the championship game.
I thought I heard Gerry say in one of the interviews after the Duke game that he (Gerry) also spent the night in the office looking a tape. Also the way Gerry talks about watching many other basketball games during the season reminds me of JB doing that. Gerry said he watched at least most of the Syracuse games.

If Lee is really that good, Gerry should try to bring him to Syracuse. But, for Lee’s long term prospects of becoming a head coach at a big program, taking the head coach job at Siena is the way to go.
I think it a toss up either way. The key is what happens. If Lee is Sienna HC and the program makes no progress. then he is nothing on th4e market. If Lee is McNamara's assistant and Syracuse begins clicking, then Lee is going to become a hit property.

So, if Sienna wants him, does he bet only on himself, or does he bet on himself as McNamara's top assistant?

Yeah, makes more sense.

Plus if we get one of Blackwell or Lee, I'd rather have the super young up and comer.

I can't get it out of my head, fair or not, that Blackwell was the Boeheim's Army coach and didn't handle some things super well.
He doesn't seem to be particularly charismatic or some sort of strategic savant.

I come to the Lee thread to get updates on his status and it's just discussion on RB? Any actual news on Lee?

I think we need to relax with the Ryan Blackwell talk. I think he’s a good coach and he will help us.
What's your definition of "relax" on an internet message board? It is okay if we question things.
