While they couldn't be punished enough in my book, what they got was pretty close.
TV ban effects the opponent as well. And they have content provisions in their contracts with the BTN and ESPN.

see you next august.Said they considered it but felt NCAA sanctions were enough. Delaney fails.
Every penalty has collateral damage. The reason why the B10 didn't go this way is because it would effect their own pocket book. This is the only failure in all the santions.
Next up will be other Universities OOC including SU. Let's see what kind of moral fortitude they have. Make PedSt go play Slippery Rock OOC.
see you next august.
bring the hotdogs.
If SU cancels that game it will have to be with the consent of the Metlife folks, and that means they will need to have a comparable replacement lined up. It's not that easy.
There's no need to punish the innocent just to get a point across when there are plenty of other ways to make PSU pay.
It also affects fans - tens of millions of football fans around the country - that had nothing to do with this. (both PSU fans and their future opponents' fans)

Now that PSU has no bowl games for 4 years, THIS game IS their bowl game for 2013.
Meaning MetLife will be a guaranteed sellout with 75K+ in the stadium paying a premium ticket price.
No way Syracuse gives up that kind of $$$.
Stand on all the soapboxes you want, but Dr. Gross isn't stupid.
My bet is that this game will not be canceled.
In a business sense, I tend to agree with the B1G here. PSU just got hammered (rightfully so) and will be forced to pay a mountain of cash...along with missing out on their conference bowl money. Piling onto the PSU -storm does the B1G no good.
The B1G needs for PSU to return to relevancy as soon as possible. Banning them from TV only makes PSU's eventual return to prominence that much more difficult.
ive already been looking. there is a lot of the major players already scheduled for that weekend.I have zero doubt a comparable opponent could be found. None what so ever.
except penn states share is going to a charity, not into the b1g's bank account.Agreed.
The B1G did exactly what it needed to do...publically admonished PSU through a "reasonable" financial penalty without negatively impacting the bottom line of any other program in the conference. In fact, all other programs in the B1G will benefit from an increased share of bowl TV revenue.
Win-win for Delaney.

When Penn State is notching successive 3 win seasons because of these sanctions I suspect they won't get on national TV all that much.
The announcers for every PSU game picked-up by the Big 10 Network are going to bring up the Sandusky scandal, sanctions, etc., ad nauseum, just as they did when the Fine mess initially broke. It is not the sort of constant, painful reminders the league or school needs. Why would the B1G Network want to showcase a program that has brought shame on themselves and the conference? What advertiser will want their commercials associated with this toxic program? I think the interests of both PSU and the conference would be better served by PSU keeping a low profile for a while. The B1G has plenty of other good teams that are worthy of our attention. In a business sense, I tend to agree with the B1G here. Rutgers will schedule them.. it'd be an easy win for anyone. Rutgers is never too good for this.Every penalty has collateral damage. The reason why the B10 didn't go this way is because it would effect their own pocket book. This is the only failure in all the santions.
