Big East "Hot and Heavy" with Memphis

So the way Kevin McNamara worded his tweet it makes you wonder if the BE is looking at Memphis is a basketball-only or a possible full member. If they took Memphis only for BB they would have an 11 member football conference and a 17 member basketball league. Curious. But then that was always one of the problems with the Big Sunbeast.

Last I checked it was WV leaving the Big East and not UL, but regardless, Memphis has to be one of the most attractive schools out there to add in place of losing SU, Pitt, and WV. One of the stronger if not the strongest hoops program out there that also plays D1 football and isn't in a BCS league.

What a mess the conference is going to be, and it's probably only going to get worse over time as long as half the basketball league doesn't play football. It's a shame but inevitably this thing is gonna have to be blown up with the importance that football plays in major D1 athletics. There is still potential for two solid leagues to be formed.

The BE has to replace the Dinosaur BBQ one way or another.

I must admit that the BBQ in Memphis is some of the best in the world (every hole in the wall is great down there), Memphis is really a step down. Football has been horrible since they let West go. The facilities are horrible. Many of the HS's in the are have better facilities. Bball took a hard hit after the open hand spending of Cal. The FedEx Forum is really nice and it is a great time to go to a Red Birds (AAA Cardinals franchise with a beautiful old school stadium) game in the afternoon, catch a Griz game, then hand out on Beale St. But, it really is a glorified HS.

When I went back for Christmas, many in Memphis were holding out for the rumor of the "super conference" with conf USA and MWC. I know that they have been hoping to get and invite to the BE since the LV, Cin, SF departure.

This has to be looked at as Memphis will be a replacement for Louisville who certainly will leave when the Big 12 expands to 11 or 12 teams. Might be the first time the BE is actually being proactive.

And just as Memphis is dropping from elite to second-tier. Perfect timing as always, Big East.

...didnt FEDEX honcho offer BE two years ago something like $10-$100 million to take Memphis...is that still out there...go get it BE
