Although the tournament is just over a month away, I've decided to make the trip from St. Louis after a 10 year hiatus. I figure since our time in the big east is limited, I'd better go now, especially when we have a very good team (I'm telling my wife I'm going to visit our son who's a freshman at NYU--those of you who are cuse diehards--like myself--who are married to non-believers will understand my slight transgression!). I only want to take one day of work off so I plan to fly in Friday for the Friday night and--hopefully--Saturday night games (assuming they will be playing their first game on Thursday and will win). My thought is not to buy tickets beforehand but just try to buy tickets at the Blarney Stone or outside MSG before the game on Friday (and Saturday). Thoughts on this strategy? Thanks.

I think there is value to stub hub for Friday. Ticket in hand. One less worry, etc. Scalp after semis

You're timing might not work. Best hope is to find fans of teams who lose on Thursday who are selling their tickets and going home. But by the Friday games they'll most likely all be gone, so you'll have to pay out the as* from a scalper, some of whom sell counterfeit tickets.
I'd try stubhub honestly.

Friday night semifinals is the toughest ticket to get on the street.

The advice here above is all good. Friday tix are very difficult to get on Friday. Stubhub gives you a better shot (and guarantees that they are legit).

Saturday tickets are very easy to get. Fans of the two losing teams on Friday night will be anxious to dump theirs.

Thanks for everyone's good advice. Stubhub it is for Friday. See you in New York.

I just looked on stubhub and the cheapest 100 or 200 level seats are like $300-$400 lol Has to be another way to get tickets from the school. What section do the students get to sit?

Students are seated behind the basket on a session by session basis. Maybe some student here can explain how they are distributed to students.

If it were me, I would buy a stubhub ticket for Friday night now.
Once the first game ends (chances are better as opposed to the second game) look for fans wearing the colors of the
loosing team and buy there tickets. You will buy very close to face value and lower your chances of buying fakes.
Believe the guys on here when they say that fakes are out there.
That is what I would do. See you there!

How much do students pay?

Why must it be so difficult, I want to go for the first time this year but it seems like a headache getting tickets at a fair price.

Correct me if I've got details wrong, but it is my understanding that students get ticket packages, for an unbelievably cheap price. They line up first-come, first-served at the dome and must present student ID to get the tix-- one per customer. When SU loses, the tix are gone. I think they also need to show ID at the Garden in order to pick up their game ticket before each game.

I don't want to thread jack, but if I wanted to go to Thursday's game... should I buy the Thursday ticket on stub-hub and look for the losing team's fans for Friday/Saturday's tickets?

Yep. I go to Univ of Cincinnati and this is how it is for us too. You only get tickets to the session that your school is playing and you pick up your ticket with your student ID at the Garden to avoid students just buying tickets and putting them on StubHub.
