The advice to play the long game when schools often cannot see beyond tomorrow is spot on. Especially in the B1G. Example: they too Maryland, sure it gave the ACC a black eye but Maryland has not really been impressive. Still not fiscally sound. Just another mouth to feed. Example: Rutgers. Need I say more? Terrible facilities. Mismanagement of the AD. Teams are body bag games. Borrowed money, still paying it back. Runs in the red in spite of making more TV money than ever before

ACC needs to start using data like this to get more of a $ gap with the B12. Their only highly rated game was Belichck’s first game. People weren’t watching for TCU.

When they first announced their opposition to this there were some noises that they would go independent and try to get a TV deal like ND has. But I wonder how the existing grant of rights agreement would affect that.

The current TV deals are already in place until 2029. So I don't think the BTE company can even start until 2030. The GOR is until 2035. I am sure Michigan and USC can get out of that, especially with the now ACC precedent. Also I would venture that they have a good legal challenge given the BTE was not the intent of the original GOR.

If the playoff expands again, both would only need to be Top 15 to keep all of the playoff money should they go Indy.

Worst case both can join the SEC, even if FB only. The SEC can easily add Arizona State, BYU, Colorado which are closer than Oregon and Washington for USC.

As the new investment and partnership was not a fundamental part of the original BTN agreement, I would guess that the existing agreements would only stand as applied to UM and USC if they each ratify the agreement. Either or both should be able to leave with less hassle than Most other schools leaving a conference before their present agreements.

What the ACC and SEC should be doing is asking ESPN how each/both would affect their deals. Either conference would weaken Fox' deal and the BTN would lose value while ESPN, via the SEC and/or the ACC would gain value. Further, the ACC can offer an ND-style deal to either or both teams.

Though, I don't think either UM or USC carry the national presence that ND has and my guess is that conference affiliation is preferred. That remains to be seen by the numbers guys, as I said, it is just a guess.

Anyway, the times, they are interesting, to be sure.

Board members should fight back. I doubt they have given either the presidents/Chancellors authority or given the Athletic Directors the authority to handle this large of a business decision without the board's approval from each school.

Any decision wherein you are obligated to agree to the overall deal without knowing the terms and details is risky business. Sounds more like a used car sale than a $2.4BB investment/buy-in.

The "shut up, you have no say in this matter" approach isn't working so well with the very trustees who set the policy, budget, senior positions, etc.? Petitti could be shown the door if he isn't careful.
