Blackout Looms of ESPN on YouTubeTV

What Disney/ESPN is ignoring is the fact that they have deals with other providers at a much less rate, which is what YTTB wants. If fans move to the other carriers, Disney gets no more than if they deal with YTTB.

This results in YTTB's anti-trust argument. Disney appears to be pushing a competitor out and/or gouging them. With Disney/ESPN/Fubo in one package, Disney will have trouble convincing anyone of altruistic motivations. Not that YTTB/Google has altruistic motivations, but the issue them comes down to the fairness of the deal, which Disney is les likely to win.

It will be interesting to see how it gets resolved.

You can change channels with a remote with YTTV. I think it's actually easier. It focuses on the few channels I watch, not the 500+ that I don't.

But yeah, having to app jump at the moment is less than ideal. October 1 (Monumental Sports) and October 31 (ESPN) are the first time that any YTTV negotiation impacted what I watch.
There is no channel changing, it just shows me exactly what I want to see

Unless there is a contract dispute

Interesting Readers Context added in the X post re possible antitrust violations by Disney:

There should be no question in anyone's mind that Disney is trying to force people to get Hulu. This time it's YouTube TV. When the next contract ends, they'll do the same thing to that streamer, etc., etc., until Hulu is the only one carrying Disney-owned channels. The obvious goal is to force people either to get Hulu or a separate subscription to the Disney content.

Okay without getting too entrenched in the standoff or political, does anyone here want to weigh in on Hulu and its usefulness.

I am closer to caving and it seems to check many of the boxes. Can I watch local television on Hulu (and therefore, SEC, Fox games, etc.)? Why is it lesser than YTTV as a product? Thanks to anyone willing to help.

two quick comments; I don't have Hulu. Make sure you're looking at Hulu + Live TV. Not plain Hulu. Second, I've previously posted that a difference I'm aware of is you can't use Hulu + Live TV on a TV outside of your home unless you change whatever they call the "home location" and I think you can only change that twice a year. You can access Hulu + Live TV on a computer, tablet or mobile device outside the "home location". This can be an issue for anyone who has a second location, like a vacation home, and go back and forth frequently. This is not an issue with YTTV. You can use it on a TV outside your home but can access local channels in your home location for only 3 months without returning.

Portability is why I’m connected to YTTV with a ball and chain

For me, I love the DVR functionality with YTTV and the ability to login from anywhere I am. As for the DVR, its terrific. Once you set something to record (i.e. college football, basketball, NFL games, etc.), it will record these for you automatically so you never miss a game.

If there is another provider that has similar DVR functionality and allows you to easily access content from outside your home, I'd be willing to jump ship. There wasn't anything a while back but I haven't tried the competitors lately.

Sinclair owns 38 ABC local stations that are blacked out on YTTV due to carriage dispute with Disney. CEO seeks powers of local stations to determine carriage agreements. Consults with antitrust attorneys.

A hidden credit is available to some YTTV subscribers. It is a $60 credit given at $10 a month over 6 months. The article where I found out about this is at the end of this post. I tried it and I got the credit. Apparently it is not available to every subscriber. We don't know who. Maybe I got it because I am a YTTV Sunday Ticket subscriber. If you try to get this credit, please post here whether you were successful or not.

To possibly get the credit you you have to access your YTTV on a desktop (or laptop) computer only. Then do this:
1. Open YTTV on a desktop computer (or laptop which is what I use).
2. Go to the upper right corner where your icon or profile is and click on it.
3. Click on "Settings"
4. Go to your Base Plan and on the right click on "Manage"
5. If you are eligible for the credit, it will show up under "Options". It will show you can have a credit of $10 a month starting on your next bill date and lasting for 6 months. To get the credit, click on "Agree".

I clicked on "Agree" and immediately received an email that my "promotional" offer has been activated.

It is unknown if you get this credit whether you will also get the $20 credit YTTV has said they will give to subscribers if the dispute extends for a period of time.

Good Luck!

If I have to jump to Hulu live, the one thing that will bother me the most, is if you are recording a game for instance, if you get home 10 minutes after kickoff, you can’t start from the beginning. You CAN with yttv.

I did not have that option. Not a Sunday Ticket subscriber.

Interesting. Thanks for letting us know. One of my friends who I told about this is a ST subscriber so I'll wait to hear back from him whether he was given the credit. I was just speculating that maybe I got it as a ST subscriber. The article does not say that based on reports on Reddit.

From the article: "However, dozens of Reddit sleuths who have already tried to redeem the credit have come up empty, indicating that everyone may not be eligible."

YTTV is our favorite.

We hopped onto DirecTV on Friday for the SU game and our Florida-Georgia party.

The DirecTV user interface is nowhere near as good as YTTV. We'll keep it going until YTTV restores our access to ESPN, ABC, etc.. YTTV indicated that they'd give us some "free time" after I complained about the issue. If so, we may only have to pay $50 more, or so, for the issue.

I’m doing the same. I was actually shocked how poor the interface is for directv. I had the satellite version before going to yttv so I assumed it would have been the same. It’s not and it’s very poor.
