Blackout Looms of ESPN on YouTubeTV

Outdated by the return of ESPN to YTTV but still an interesting read on our collective sports addiction and a call to rise up the next time it happens.

"We're no longer customers. We're lab rats. And somehow, we keep devouring the cheese."

This is not totally clear but this "may" mean that ESPN Unllmited special events, such as WWE, may be available to YTTV subscribers as a separate channel on the YTTV Guide rather than needing to exit the YTTV app and opening the ESPN app, thus allowing easier "channel surfing" and even the ability to DVR. We shall see.

Although this article says the agreement allows YTTV to "ingest" [include as channels] all of the content of ESPN Unlimited, I am skeptical. There is just too much available live at the same time on the ESPN app, e.g., all of the ESPN+ content, for it to make sense. But they may include a lot, especially special events like WWE.

I did the dance the first time they lost ESPN.
I'm glad I stuck it out this time, ended up with about $80 in credits and didn't have the hassle of the back and forth nonsense.
Will be interesting to see what YTT looks like at the end of next year with the potential of this new deal.

I'm so confused. I guess I haven't watched any ESPN+ shows since ESPN and YTTV made up, but now I can't watch any of it and they want $29.99/month to watch the + shows. Am I missing something?

No. While the agreement will eventually give YTTV subscribers access to ESPN Unlimited, it hasn't been implemented yet. Although you should have access to the ESPN channels on the ESPN app, including ACCNX, like existed before the dispute. There apparently are technical issues to be worked out regarding full authentication. Although Disney & Comcast did their agreement earlier I don't believe they've worked out their technology issues yet either. I just got it with DirecTV Satellite & that took several months. So may just want the ESPN Select for a few months to get ESPN+, but not the full package.

OK, thanks. On one link it wasn't giving me the Select as an option ($12.99/month or $129.99 for the year) and then when I found the link, it said I wouldn't have access to any of the ESPN channels or ACCN. But, that's not true.

So, I signed up for Select and I still get all my ESPN channels and ACCN through the YTTN app and all the ESPN+ games through the ESPN app. So, so far, everything is still like it was before.

Great! What they said is true if you don't otherwise have authentication for the rest. I'll post when I see there's YTTV authentication for all of it. I assume we'll get an email from YTTV.

ESPN3 is no more.

Don't touch the Ocho.

I guess they want you to get ESPN Unlimited. I watched the Women's Field Hockey tournament last month for the first time, and I suppose there will be MLAX and WLAX games streaming on ESPN+ that I now have access to.

<Still waiting for Spectrum's next "secret" price increase>

Were there still LAX games on ESPN3? ACC is on ACCNX. No word yet of them wanting to shut that down. I recall that some Johns Hopkins home games have been on ESPN3 when not on ESPNU but I don't recall if any were last year. The "mid-major" LAX leagues that have agreements with ESPN I think are all on ESPN+. At least the Ivy and Patriots Leagues have been.

Also, if you have Spectrum I believe you have access to the full ESPN Unlimited as part of the Spectrum subscription. Unless it only applies if you have certain Spectrum plans.

I think Hop home games were streaming on BigTen+ last year.

I don't think so. I think their home games were on ESPNU, sometimes the following morning. In those cases maybe they were on ESPN3 live. Didn't Quint do some of their home games?

They're all over the map.

ESPNU, ESPN+, BTN, BTN+.

I know the Big Ten Networks have the rights to any Big10 conference games that ESPN doesn't want.
