Blog: 5 Moments You Shouldn't Mention to an Orange Fan

I'd add Lawrence Moten calling the non-existent timeout with 4 seconds left and SU leading against eventual national champion Arkansas in the 1995 Midwest Regional, and the 1991 Syracuse-Richmond debacle. Throw in the 1986 Regional loss to Navy (Pearl's last game) at the Dome for good measure.

For those of us old enough to remember the JT senior era, I would add two words. Michael Graham. 'Nuff said.

Watching Hagan eat up Ross Kindle play after play and losing the ECAC to the Bonnies. Pearl getting his shot blocked vs St. Johns in the Big East championship. Sherm being sick vs Rhode Island when we needed him to be 100% vs a guard oriented team in the NCAA's.

I think it was Walter Berry that blocked Pearl's shot if I am remembering correctly. Yes, that was painful indeed.

For me

1-DC missing the front end of the 1/1

2-the Rhode Island loss was huge!

3-1988 losing to Illini in elite 8 with the best SU team ever IMO

4-the Moten Time out!

5-Winfred Walton never making it on the court.

Honorable mention recruiting!
1-Kenny Anderson
2-Jalen Rose
3-stephon Marbury

That list is weak - I have never met a Syracuse fan who loses sleep over the 1996 title game. The fact that it was close with 4-5 minutes left is an incredible achievement considering how much of a talent mismatch that game was.

Not only am I not a fan of Bleacher Report but I am also not a fan of any online article that you keep having to flip pages to read. I like online but not when it becomes work.

The only time it bothers me is when I'm talking to a UK fan. Every game during that run was a gift and a joy to watch. The only thing I wish changed was Wallace not getting into foul trouble. Well, I wish we won but that should go without saying!

I don't get that upset over the game against Kentucky. It was an amazingly talented team and we held our own with them. Not too many what ifs about that game.

Agreed. The only thing about that game that really pisses me off (other than losing but, as you said, it was one of the most talented teams in a very long time and we played a long stretch without our only ballhandler against that attacking press) was at the end, when it was 74-67, guys started walking around and getting ready to shake hands or whatever, and Tony freaking Delk decides to go and score a layup before time expired. What a punk move that was.

Arkansas won it all the year prior. They lost to UCLA in the NCG the Moten year.

But yeah, I would replace 1996 with this, Michigan State, Vermont, or (dark horse) 35 point turnaround in losing to Lville last march.

I think that michigan state game in 2000 was the worst loss I've ever attended in person.

Brutal.

I agree on UVM. The Georgetown game I attended this year was pretty bad too...The Lville game didn't bug me too much. I remember thinking that we just ran out of gas. These are my five in no particular order. Please keep in mind I didn't become a fan until I became a student.

UVM tournament game
Georgetown season finale
Bernie Fine investiagation
Being left out in 2007
That entire 96-97 ugly season

Meh...if you lose to Drexel and Witchita St at home don't be shocked when you get left out of the tournament.

And I think the idea of 20 year old D1 ball players "running out of gas" is pretty overrated.

ETA: LOL..."shocked." Get it?

AO going down was basically the end of our season and everyone knew it. We had 7 starters and 0 bench players with him.

Fab going down was nothing like that. Yeah, there was a slight downgrade - but it wasnt season ending by any means. It was next man up.

yeah - I had no idea. Don't know how I missed that one.
You should be "shot" for not knowing that
