Bo Ryan retires ... effective immediately

Saw some RUMORS on this one. Nothing to do with health or their record. Possibly Bobby Petrino situation.

But again, just rumors.

The actual quote was that Syracuse had "way more talent" than Miami. Unfortunately, they also had way fewer points.
he said that that the play by play guys would be talking about a talent gap. He actually could have been correct. Just not the way he thought.

- Bo Ryan announced his retirement suddenly on Tuesday night.
Ryan has always looked out for his assistants and has wanted Greg Gard to take over for him, although AD Barry Alvarez reportedly isn’t on board. Ryan said he would have stepped down before the season, but Gard’s father was battling cancer, so Ryan kept going to let his assistant handle that.

Gard’s father passed away in October. With the semester ending, Ryan decided that Tuesday was the right time to give Gard a chance to win the full-time job.

“I wanted to give Coach Gard plenty of time to get the guys ready and get them into the position where, as a head coach, he has a chance to take a run at the job," Ryan said. "That’s the way this business is. Coach Gard will have that chance.”
There is more to this story. I've been sick the last week and don't have the stamina to go through all the threads to see if someone else posted this info, so forgive if it's a repeat. Bo wanted his assistant coach Greg to succeed him. A.D. Alvarez told him no last summer, so Bo reneged on his resignation. He and Alvarez have bad blood and this is a bit of a revenge scenario. Bo wants Greg to have one year to to be a head coach, in order for him to either be retained by Wisconsin or to have "Head Coach" on his resume for other positions. He deliberately took back the role of Coach in order to relinquish it at an auspicious time for Greg.

In trying to look out for his assistant's best interests, I am not sure Bo has looked out for the best interests of his team.

as Alvarez shrugs and mutters, "we're a football school."

Sound's accurate. I could of seen Boeheim doing the same thing if they didn't guarantee Hopkins the gig in the future here.

Honestly, if that staff has been successful, I dont really think it's that huge of deal. I'm sure Gard recruited most of the players.

Makes me think about JB's eventual, retirement presser statement.

"I don't know half of you, half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you, half as well as you deserve..."

I hope it ends with him giving the Ncaa the middle finger.

Bo knows side hoes.

Excellent job getting the punctuation marks inside the quotation marks.

I thought everybody knew about that. [/sarcasm]
