Bo Ryan: "We don't rent-a-player"

He wasn't talking about one and dones. He was talking about transfers coming in with 1 year left after graduating. It was not a shot at Duke.

He is right they don't, but its not because of lack of trying.

What was the context for the statement?

Is that how the Wisconsin Athletic Dept. is spinning it? If that's the case, the comment seems like a total non-sequitur

The question was about being attached to the seniors. He was explaining that he has guys for four years and they become very close.

Duke's freshmen scored 60 out of the 68 points Duke scored. That's some serious renting.

Hmmm. They got him to the final game. That's better than all but one other team in the country did.
So the problem with actually having guys who coincidentally show up to attend college for four years is _____ ????

Lost a lot of respect for him last night cuz of his comments. He does go after 1 and done's, problem is that he can't get any of them to commit. He's failed to secure commits from a lot of high-level in-state players over the years. Henry Ellenson, Diamond Stone, Kevin Looney, J.P. Tokoto to name a few. He's really only gotten Sam Dekker.

If he was really talking about the 5th year senior rule, it was a pretty inappropriate and illogical time to bring it up after playing Duke in the Championship. JB has criticized that rule also and its' misuse but the timing and venue used by Bo Ryan, only makes sense if he was talking about "one and dones".

Other way around. He wasn't talking about Duke. He was asked about how he felt about his seniors. He explained the one-and-done statement with "I like to build from within". He was talking about how by contrast, he is close to his seniors that he's watched grow up (more evidence that he was referring to transfers).

I'm thoroughly enjoying watching Bo Ryan implode and let everyone know the dbag that a few already knew he is.

His comment rings pretty hollow considering his program's 40% graduation rate, which is good for 3rd WORST in the tournament field. Oh yeah, his graduation rate for black players = 0%.

Or how he wouldn't have been able to get close to if they were only there their freshman year. Personally, I think his answer should have been all about those same senior kids he loves.

Of course he was talking about Duke. His comment was entirely to portray a contrast between his program and programs like Duke, which he just played against and lost to.

And the kentucky's of the world that run a hotel for players to stay one or 2 years before moving onto the league. Calipari himself admitted that he could loose 7 (that's SEVEN) guys to the NBA this year alone. Talk about rentals.

If Bo was talking about fifth year senior transfers, Wisconsin football has gone into that big time (see Russell Wilson).

Maybe he was simply talking about paying players, hence the rent portion of the comment? And it was a shot at Kentucky... RIGHT!??

Maybe he should have just talked about how he will miss his seniors who gave him 4 years and not said anything about "rent a player" because as soon as you are saying that you are making a comparison to some other program.
