Perhaps if one of the other NE schools - Buttgers, UCon, Bc - were looking for a coach right now, someone would be. But another FCS team in the NE isn’t going to lure him away from HC. And he’s not the kind of guy a southern school would seek out.
Could be.

This board desperately needs an official “Last Word” gif. May I suggest this:

Jackson Heights' own, Mr. Randy Watson, never fails.

If you are coming off consecutive bowl games, it’s not a complete rebuild. Doesn’t matter how you got there.
Syracuse has a losing record of 27-62 since its joined the ACC and just fired it's coach because of his role in it. All the recent years of mostly mediocrity and losing - now decades long - have tarnished SU's proud reputation and brand as an Eastern football power.

There are currently no talented/promising QBs on the roster, very few returning players with All-Conference pedigree or potential, and outside of Gadsen (who's return is uncertain), Wax and maybe Allen, Stonehouse or DV - there are no clearly identifiable NFL prospects returning to the team.

If the goal is to compete for conference championships, this roster - with some but not enough ACC caliber athletes - is presently not good enough. The current roster needs to be fortified/restocked with better, stronger P5-level athletes, a P5 QB room, more impact playmakers on both sides of the ball and more talented/capable offensive (and defensive) lineman - there's just no denying it, the talent and depth on this team has to be rebuilt, from down in the trenches up to the quarterback.

Having a roster barely good enough to backslide into "two consecutive" lower tier bowls - hasn't happened yet - doesn't mean that this team is just a few moves away from competing for conference titles, playing in upper tier bowls or vying for a spot in the expanded playoffs - the stated goals.

So while it might not be a "complete" rebuild, it's still very much a rebuild - a rebuild of the roster, the program and SU's iconic brand/reputation - no matter how you label it.

I think the offense Syracuse has been running the last 2 games is not dissimilar to the offense Chesney runs at HC. So, if that's the case, put me down as all in on BC.

I have spent the last 3 days learning about Chesney and I am impressed - very impressed.
Youtube has a lit of videos, podcasts etc. I recommended them to you to get a look at this dynamo.

If it's him we'll be in good hands.

I'm all in.

He's my top choice, by far.

The only ones I'm absolutely against are Golden and Mullen. Guys couldn't win at Miami and Florida, they're not winning at Syracuse.

Dan Mullen went 11-2 at Florida and won the Orange bowl in his 2nd year. 34-15 record overall. Best season for them since the Muschamp year in 2012 and since the Urban Meyer years. He’s my number one choice with Bob a very close 2nd.

All indications are Mullen is done with coaching.

With McElwain's players. What happened when he had his own?

I mean those players were 4-7 the year before he got there, immediately flipped them to 10-3.
There is no doubt he is a good/great coach (and this could win if he had talent on hand), his end was due to not wanting to recruit (or at least not the effort required to get top classes)

No clue what that would translate to at Syracuse

Its really a function though of where you start..

Very few kids are coming out of the class d-c and doing all this extra stuff and getting a ton of value for it. You might get a few D3 offers from it

You move up in NY to class A and see something and on occasion the B kids find a way

But then if you have 20 kids on a team and every few years someone makes it thats great... I also think though a ton of kids who might have talent never get that far because of all this extra stuff they cant find money or time to compete and quit long before they ever show their talent.

In my youth coaching probably 25% of the better bball/baseball kids never even played much beyond the early stages because people valued sizea/aggression early on more than instincts or talent.

what sports are you referring to ?

Do you think Golden and Mullen could win at Holy Cross?

all sports. if you grow up outside of any of the big cities in NY there are almost no kids going to anything other than D3 schools for the most part. And really many of those kids are not playing Lax/Hockey because small schools seldom play those sports.

forget about college scholarships. people are investing in club/travel just to make their school teams (basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse). they have to keep up with the jones because if they don't the kid might get cut. There's some politics in it for sure, but kids who play out of season are naturally, better than those who don't.

Unfortunately kids don't cut their teeth in the backyards anymore so (outside of the top natural athletes) if you think you're going to make the team just playing once a year it's unlikely and if you do you're at the bottom.

youth travel hockey is stupid and these people are nuts. It's not even about the HS teams it's about making it big. I know so many hockey parents who spent thousands and thousands and not one of them even went to college for hockey let alone sniffing dreams of the NHL. Most of these kids are washed up and some have had surgery's or walk with limps before 20.
On the other hand my kid played all through to ACHA D1 level. He’s been a successful HS coach for years and is hockey director for a travel program. We don’t regret the investment and he’s a mentor to his nephew playing Silver Sticks this weekend. It’s a lifestyle for a family that’s for sure.

Unlikely. It's like asking a fortune 500 guy if he could do what a startup CEO can do. Diff skill sets.

Syracuse isn't a fortune 500 company anymore. We're kinda a startup and need to operate as such. Find new and unique ways to expose inefficiencies in the bigger programs to succeed.

congrats. you're in the tiny minority.
