Bob Diaco HIre

They're obviously in much more trouble for FB than for hoops. Once that downward spiral begins, it's hard to stop. As we well know. And they don't have the heritage or the ACC lifeline we have/had.

The system for hoops is a whole lot more fair to mid-majors.

They have above average facilities, an ability to pay coaches/assts (1.5m for Diaco compared to Shafer who is most likely under 1m), a sugar daddy, have put kids in the NFL lately, and an established recruiter in the region in Diaco. The wheels came off this season, but they have been solid up to it. There really aren't any power programs left in the northeast. They could easily find their niche, especially with a conference that is solid, but still very winnable.

I totally disagree. They play off campus. Shafer makes a reported 1.2 million and I would assume with the staff that we have are being paid pretty well. After all we lured McDonald away from Arkansas and Miami. What I have been reading is that Narduzzi turned down the job in part because the budget for assistants was too small.

People forget that Marrone was voted as one of the best recruiters in the SEC by his peers when he was with TN. A terrible league/terrible program has a way of smashing great recruiters to the turf, and quickly. Diaco will see how hard it is to recruit to a program that has no history and is very young as well as being in the Northeast.

But it pays a whole lot less money. Over time, that's going to be reflected in facilities, salaries, amount of TV coverage, and all of that is going to eventually bear on the quality of hoops recruits you get, too. Even the best mid-major programs don't keep drawing elite talent forever.

And this is what our uconn frienimies fail to recognize. Right now, kids don't associate them with mid-major because they only know uconn playing in the BE, against top teams. That will change moving forward.

Diaco is a good hire on paper. It'll be interesting to see how he recruits to uconn...and what kind of ge day coach he is.

On paper, GRob was a good hire, too.

Diaco was my #1 choice to replace Marrone, and before SS got his act together a little bit this year...Diaco was my #1 choice to coach Syracuse next year.

i would imagine Diaco believes he will be there about 3, maybe 4 years before hes on to bigger and better things.

this hire will hurt ND and will hurt rutgers. im not saying he will get ND NJ talent to storrs, just that ND NJ talent will be more likely to go to the ped st nambla lions now or someone else of that ilk.

i thought him to Syracuse and the ACC muscle, wouldve been a great fit to get ND NJ talent to the hill.

I wouldn't go that far. I, for one, was never enamored with his credentials/resume.

I have yet to read a negative story about Diaco...there were plenty out there ravaging GRob before he ever stepped on campus.

Impossible. Believe I read UConn will be Temple in football in a few years.

Hey now hold on a second (I mean this in jest).

My parents are from Cicero-- and my father and older sister have SU degrees... by all accounts I have been a SU fan my whole life.

BUT as a Temple Grad I would like to point out that they have been bowling twice in the last 5 years AND one of those years they won 8 games and didnt get a bowl invite.

Plus my owls have a realllly nice looking true freshman playing QB this year.

SS was never getting fired this year or next.

Nice looking in a Charley Loeb way?

Haha allow me to re-phrase

Temple's QB- is skilled in the game of football, while not being as man-pretty as some other players in NCAA

Pretty easy to recruit to Notre Dame.

Just stop saying irrational things and we'll be good.

what was irrational in your world??

This:
and before SS got his act together a little bit this year...Diaco was my #1 choice to coach Syracuse next year.

When exactly in the season did it look like he was having the kind of season where he'd realistically get fired?

never.

not once, did i ever realistically expect Syracuse to fire a coach in year 1. not in a million years.

but apparently in your world, i said i expected him to be canned.

oh well...

try and keep up, i dont like holding hands.

Who flocking cares who the Doggies hired. They are stuck in the Shasta League and will rot there.

Sorry, I thought where you said Diaco could be our coach next year and that SS didn't have his act together this year as some sort of statement on his firing. Clearly that's on me. Sheesh.

Let's see if you need hand holding on this: Your condescending attitude far out weighs the worth of your posts. Respectfully.

You're just wrong. Admit it.

Everything in the future involves hypotheticals and prognostications - my point was that your hypothetical about the firing of Shafer this year was and is batsh#t crazy.

I'm not offended at all. Though since you think I should be - I think you've proven what an A#% you are. Carry on.

I don't see how anyone could interpret what you wrote differently.

I guess we disagree.
