Say what you want about Pitino but he has done a good job getting his assistant coaches into head coaching positions. I'm glad to see Rob Murphy get a HC job, cause it's been a few years since a Boeheim assistant got one. Unless I am forgetting someone, I guess the last one was Louie Orr at Siena in 2000. Prior to that it was Tim O'Toole and Wayne Morgan a few years before that.

Masiello is a pretty high strung guy who previously was an assistant at Manhattan under Bobby Gonzalez. He played his college ball at Kentucky under Pitino where he was a teammate of Scott Padgett who is one of his assistants at Manhattan. Padgett was on the Kentucky team in 1996 when Laz Sims and company played them in the NC game. Padgett was a redshirt that season though and did not play.

Really, isn't Bernie the only real Syracuse ass't to not get a head coaching job? Let's see..Slick Rick went to B.U. His replacement, Brendon Malone, left for Rhode Island. Ralph Willard was also on our staff and became a head coach. As did Tim O' Toole, Louis Orr, Wayne Morgan, Rob Murphy. We had a kid that got the head job at albany and moved to loyola. Troy Weaver didn't want to be a college coach opting to have his career goal to be a NBA GM. Hop could of had the Charlotte job but turned it down. In other words, what are you talking about?

Not talking about anything but in a ten year period from 1990 to 2000 we had four or five guys become head coaches and in the last ten years since then we have only had one. It means absolutely nothing. And since 2000, Pitino has probably been the best "promoting" his assistants.

Izzo has been the best at getting his assistant jobs recently off the top of my head Stan Heath, Brian Gregory, Tom Crean, Doug Wojcik. However, JB's tree is helped by the fact Pitino's tree is underneath Boeheim's sorta like Bill Walsh's coaching tree is so huge because of the assistants of his assistants.
