Boeheim's Army vs Herd That Gameday...

Who would’ve thought that BA would be overmatched 1-5 against the Marshall alumni team.
This year's team does not feature many players who played a lot of minutes at SU or have any connection to the university or Jim Boeheim. The 2015 Boeheim's Army roster included Eric Devendorf, Donte Greene, Rick Jackson, Lawrence Moten, Demetris Nichols, Josh Pace, Hakim Warrick, Baye Moussa Keita and Mookie Jones. I have been much more interested in watching the early season alumni games than I was watching this lineup of Boeheim's Army.

For the people who want to see SU alumni on the team, there should be plenty available given the program's inability to put guys in the pros as of late. Either they don't want to play or have simply moved on from basketball.

Hey everybody, it’s that guy.

Hey everybody, it’s that guy.

Yup. The “gimme a mostly all-Cuse lineup that doesn’t make it past the 2nd game,
rather than a blend that has a chance to actually win it all” guy.

The reason we don’t have more former Cuse guys to play in this, is because JAB’s crootin fell off a cliff in the past 7 years or so.

And it’s not like all our best dudes are busy in the NBA.
It’s pretty much Jerami (and OSB) now.

A lot of names get thrown around, as in "I'd like to see X on BA."

The fact is, a lot of guys are approached every year and a lot of guys say no. Some have never said yes and some fans keep throwing their names out. Some want to spend their off-season with their families. Some have moved on from basketball. Some simply have no interest in playing for BA.

The actual SU alums didn't give us much today. Maybe next year we get a Cole or a Buddy, but even then we would need a lot more to get to the finals.

Oh well. It was great seeing their faces again and I enjoyed the first three games a lot. I never complain about seeing former players in the middle of the summer. An all-SU BA will never exist again, so thanks to the guys who still show up.

Hoops is now over for the summer and SU football plays Game #1 in less than 5 weeks.

Yup.

Had to take the country roads.

Oh wait, that's the other guys in WV.

Location for this one worked heavily in Herd That's favor. Quick turnaround for both teams but they didn't have to travel and we did.

Plus we played and took out the most physical team in TBT in the previous game while having two key guys banged up.

This game did show how a guy like Riller can get himself into trouble. When he's not cooking he can hurt you a bit on both ends. He had a hell of a tournament going into this one and was key if not the primary reason getting us to this point. Reminds a lot of Devo in that way.

Spot on.

I look forward to that number increasing quickly over the next 5 years or so. NBA is much more enjoyable to watch when we have cuse guys to follow across the league.

Less than 5 weeks?! That's hard to believe! It snuck up on me quick. The SYR offseason is officially over. Football practice starts Wednesday, correct? Can't wait to follow the daily practice reports. LGO!

Did Syracuse and West Virginia flip for this game's location? Big time disadvantage to travel for this one while the other team has a home game. Just thought it was odd that we each hosted a regional... and then one has to go to the other for a final 8 matchup. Why not neutral location... or just straight to Philly where the semifinals and final are?

Seems like there’s still enough guys out there that could compete well in this, but some guys might just not want to or are unable to play? Like Triche…he’s played in this many times - anyone know where he is? Gillon is on another team! Unfortunately Battle and Malachi fell through. Maybe next year?

Give me Triche, Gillon, Battle, Malachi, White, Jimmy, McCullough, BJ, Chukwu, Christmas and a couple ringers next year and I’d personally be more into it. Seems like that’s a realistic roster of 10 SU guys(only one I’m not sure if he still plays is Triche), that could do pretty well in this.

Gbinije is another who has played before and I would assume still plays hoop? Maybe Hughes and Buddy get into this at some point.

I agree with you that recruiting fell off big time, but I think that affects the NBA more? Seems like we’ve got a lot of guys playing in other pro leagues that could be options for this?

Yeah made no sense. Not to mention to me- if that had to be the case then the Syracuse regional should get the nod given it's produced the past 2 winners. No guarantee that we will win the game but there was no doubt of the advantage here.

The War Memorial is probably setting up for "Disney on Ice".

They're putting Walt's frozen head on skates.

I wonder if a lot of guys say no because their European teams don’t want them playing for fear of injury or if the players think playing in the TBT might negatively affect them getting a European contract if they get hurt before inking a deal. I realize guys play pickup in the summer but I think there is more risk getting hurt in something like real professional games in the TBT.

The physicality of the tourney and how its called im sure doesn't help its case.

Meh, I think that’s just an excuse. Blackwell was completely outcoached. Made no adjustments during halftime and had no answer for Elmore’s adjustments.

Riller ran out of gas, too.

I didn't say we win or that we played well enough to win all things considered. Thst said we did win 3 games with home court advantage, with a team full of some guys who aren't spring chickens to go play where Herd that had the home court advantage with their fans having had to go nowhere.

Coaching and running out of gas I don't disagree but you can't tell me the location and travel didn't play its part. That's being unreasonable. Not to mention Herd was the much younger team to go with.

Sure, it played a part. It’s not why we lost. We still would have lost had the game been in Syracuse.

Would it have been more fair for Herd That to play at the War Memorial?

I stand by what I said. These are just excuses. The tournament setup was fair. We didn’t get cheated.
