Bold predictions for the NW game

Call me crazy but I think we steal this one. They got some payback coming from last year. Offense can clean up the communication issues in 1 week, I really believe they can. Cut down on the mistakes and blown assignments and give the defense a chance to keep it a game.

Is it really stealing a win if you outgained the same team by 300 yards the season prior?

1) kick away from venric mark
2) get Rome rolling
3) play action passes
4) qb bootleg plays
5) celebrate

I believe this might happen on the same play.

I hope you're right. In my opinion, there's nothing better in football than either opening up a half with a kick-off return for a TD or answering an opponent's score by taking one to the house. It's just so demoralizing to the opponent, and I hope NW feels that pain.

Hopefully we can establish the run, as well.

Can't see us winning this game. They put up 42 points on us last year (I know a few of those were thanks to ST/DEF). Do you see us scoring 20?

If we cant put up 20 points on this NW D, we are looking at a 3-4 win season.

GM missed a seem last weekend. He cut outside and ended with a nice 35 yard return but he had space if he cut left. It wouldve been the mirror image of Grahams return v WFVU.

Choose the correct answer ...
We will score a touchdown in the following way:

A. Flea flicker touchdown
B. Broyld rushing touchdown
C. Both

I think our D is better than it was last year, so why do you assume they will put up 42 again?

Not gonna lie, I'm a bit worried after Penn State. Hope we can do well this weekend but people here are massively underrating this NW team. Especially since they are at home.

There will be 900 yards of offense in this game.

Syracuse > NW

Allen > 275 yards

Broyld > 6 catches

They won in the Dome last year, we win at Ryan Field this year.

There's a lot of things I don't like about this game. Having said that, they gave up 450 yards passing last week to a true freshman, and lost one of their starting corners. So I hope we don't unfortunately find out just how truly bad our offense is this week.

Northwestern is one of those intangibles type teams you just hate to play. You can dominate them on the stat line and lose by 3. You can match them on the stat line and lose by 3 TDs.

I expect this to be no more than a 3 point game at the end of the 3rd quarter. No reason we shouldn't stick around that long. At that point, anything is possible, good or bad.

Mark not being healthy enough to return punts, and Jerome Smith not dropping backwards passes and staring down the ball would be a welcome way to save 21 Northwestern points this year.

I actually agree with you on both ends, I think NW is a good team and I also think the issues we saw last week have the potential to be a lot more of a problem then many here are admitting. I had a large post planned to discuss some of the issues but I decided to hold off based on the amount of turnover we had at key positions and new faces in game 1 to see if we can work out some of the kinks.

I will be happy if the offense comes to life on Saturday even if we end up losing the game because NW is a top 20 team playing at home and even a good performance could end in a loss. But I do agree with you in that I am still extremely concerned about what I saw offensively against PSU. If we dont improve quickly this year could get out of hand quickly.

Your second paragraph is spot on and unfortunately as you noted one of the issues you run into playing NW. Hopefully after this game we can take a little break from playing NW, I have seen enough of them for a while.

To me the most concerning thing is what you noted in your first paragraph, the Cal QB a true frosh lit up NW and that was with there full compliment on Defense. If Syracuse comes out an only put up 275 yards of offense and 14-17 pts I think thats a huge red flag and probably going to put a lot of fingers on the panic button.. Win or lose the offense needs to show it can compete against a BCS level team or games against Clemson and others could really get out of hand.

Would be interesting to know what other issues concern you about this game as you noted in the beginning of your post.
