Boston U Gameday...

I told Jeremy I'd be happy to get 6k...

Yup you nearly nailed it. Pretty good turnout today. Also in a sign of how popular the pickem has gotten heard a young guy near me complaining to his friends about the Providence non cover in the Syracusefan contest, lol

Also someone on team needs to tell dwan he is a defensemen n to worry more bout shuting his man completely down rather then trying to score goals let alone full or half field goals.

Better question is why did we not have anyone on endline to back up long shots on the open goal. If an attackman is back there then shooting is a viable strategy vs. 10 man.

It’s fine if running it out to beat it is option A, but if you watch anyone beat a 10-man there is almost always a couple shots with an attackman backing it up.

I just don’t understand this team’s preparation sometimes.

Multiple young players looked good.

Positives… Hahn, Bolognino, Kittelberger, McIntee

Negatives… Beck(overall he was fine but he looks slow), McCarthy(he started and I didn’t even notice him on the field), Angelo

Overall, it’s a fine performance against a quality team. Cuse is just frustrating to watch, feels like they leave meat on the bone. Could’ve won today by 10-12 easily

I'm not going to quibble too much about the negatives with it being the first game. I was mainly worried about the SSDMs and they looked very strong. Bowen needed a quarter to get his sea legs but after that look as advertised. Jake Spallina was not great last year and he looked very good today. They allowed McCool to have a lot of open looks on BU's shots. I'm not sure how many more times they'll see the 10 man. I know Colgate runs it but I don't know about the other opponents.

Your gonna see it next week for sure. UNC also runs it and UVA will at times as well

10 man ride have to beat a defender. Once ya beat or get around one guy it will be easier to break. Problem is we panic n don’t draw D in close enough before making a pass. Also to many guys standing watching instead of moving n finding the open space or easier pass to make. Also can’t have dudes running off right away, least not all. Also mccool has to get it out n up fast on clean saves. We have athletic guys on team now get balls in their hand spread out n let them work. When ur guy goes to help move up to space n call for the ball. Can’t rely everytime on just shooting it n hoping to back it up.

Supposedly we were to have that backup according to the radio broadcast.

aren't you glad we're live in week zero?? it's taking over!!

Lol in all seriousness im glad to see it take off a bit. Always a fun time and makes watching some of these games that there's no rooting interest in suddenly have one. Hopefully next year we wont have 60% of the opening weeks games canceled or postponed.

I think the guys will be fine. BU is good and their ten man ride was incredibly effective first half.

Joey had his moments but forced a lot of passes and shots. I’m not worried about him at all. He’s been in this situation before.

Thomson is Thomson. Like Jeremy had pointed out he’s either really good or really bad. He’s been a disappointment to me due to inconsistent play.

McCool I thought was better then the announcers and half time panel were insinuating. First game of the year I thought he looked solid. He made some nice changes during half time to stop low shots and it worked.

Yup that was you. You were two rows up from myself and board legend OrangeExtreme. Will introduce you to him and get you an autograph at the St. Joes game!!!

Hard to know exactly where things stand with the new crew at ssdm. On the one hand it was a pretty great shut down performance, on the other BU seemed a little...slow? They seemingly had no seriously speedy midfielder who could draw slides. #1 Shanahan at attack was quality off the dodge, but practically everyone else just seemed to have no serious first step. Even though BU is a far better team, we have had jitterbugs on Vermont give us more trouble off the dodge against short sticks in the opener.

For new guys, I definitely liked Bowen a lot. He is certainly strong enough for any match up. Seems more like Levine in that maybe his quickness is not especially elite, but he is big and physical enough to push people off of their angles. I also thought Kittelberger looked very speedy and did not make any serious mistakes on ball or off ball. Great to see for a freshman. He has some good size and strength too, but seems like he has a higher ceiling for matching feet with quick guys than a lot of our ssdms.

Not a new guy, but Jake Spallina had a great game. He is not especially fast, but has gotten stronger and more physical as he gets older. Think he has definitely earned a spot in the top 4.

I thought the same after it had happened a couple of times. If the shot was the strategy then you need to put someone on the endline and if it wasn't the strategy it only needed to happen once before I'd tell an attackman to park back there.
