Bourama Sidibe

Truthfully, I have thought right from the start that Bourama probably wouldn't play. I think JB had a free scholarship and gave a good kid and good student some free graduate work. If he were able to give us any actual PT it would be a bonus.

Agreed - when he wasn't cleared at start of summer, the writing was on the wall. Doesn't hurt to have another pseudo grad assistant either.

If he is not a liability it also looks positive for Frank's development to get minutes too given the limited depth at .
Last notes I saw re: Frank was that he was not ready and the staff were planning more for him in 2022-23.

I love Sidibe but I’m ready to see Edwards and Frank. I would hate to see Sidibe labor for 25mpg but JB still plays because he’s JB lol. Give me 25 from Jesse then 10 from Frank and 5 from Bourama
I'm hoping we can roll the dice with Jesse for 30 mpg. Is there anyone not bullish on Jesse on what he should be capable of doing based on his limited history? I think Buddy, JG3, Benny, Cole/Jr, Jesse should put up some points.

If we can get almost 30 MPG a game out of Jesse that would be great.

Yeah, no.

It’s nothing against Jesse.
It’s just completely unrealistic to expect a non-Senior C to average 30 or more minutes, since it pretty much never happens under JB.

Senior Rak averaged 35, but he was literally THE MAN that year.

Ditto for Senior RickJack.

FWIW - Soph Big East DPOY Fab Melo averaged ~25.

So - ask yourself:
Is Jesse gonna be more like Soph Fab (please God! Make it so!!) -
or somehow magically become an all-around force on both ends like Rick and Rak?

This is (nearly) a rhetorical question.

I’ll hang up and listen.

Didn’t JB say on a radio interview (I believe it was when he called in to the Brent Axe show after Kadary transferred and everyone was in an uproar) that Sidibe was full go and the problem was an infection in his knee that had cleared up?! Makes no sense if five months later Sidibe is still not cleared to play.

So if BS doesn't play how are you splitting up the 5? I'm a lot more bullish on Jesse than Frank, JBA or Jr manning the middle. And I like Jr. Just think he gives up too much physically.

Yep this right here. It’s a long season, so I think it’s possible Sid can work his way back to playing 5-8 minutes a game come February or March...but If not I feel good with 3rd year Jesse and 2nd year Frank sharing the bulk of the minutes throughout the season.

I don’t think Jesse would even make it 30 minutes a game even if he got the opportunity this year tbh...he fouled like a hawk last year. Would definitely be nice to see him get that under control a bit. 25 a game would be big a plus for him.

He did but keep in mind that last year was supposed to be a redshirt year for him and the staff never intended to use him. He will have benefited from a full summer here and guys improve over time. That being said, I don’t expect 30 min either. Our big men tend to develop more slowly and even putting that aside, banging in the middle takes more out of a player. It is one thing for a perimeter player to be able to play 30 minutes but it is another for a guy who is basically involved in hand to hand combat to do the same.

Part of that is respect. He definitely got called for a number he didn't commit as refs blew the whistle in anticipation. He has to be measured in his approach and not swing wildly at shots. I do think if he establishes himself as a consistent rim protector he will get a better whistle.

Must be Frank and Jesse are ready to ball at the"5".
JB would never ever put his roster in such a pickle by offering
a scholarship position to someone who is 50/50 on being able to get
up and down the court.

'less he's got his kid coming in to play the Marek role at the 5

EGG Zackley...
I mean why not...6'8" averaging 5 rebs in over 30 min. a game in the Ivy league.
No doubt he can hang and bang with ACC bigs...

yes he did

Not really sure it would be the Marek role. JB Jr. is way heavier than Marek and while certainly not heavy by the standards of the position, is heavier than our other centers. Only an inch shorter too. Probably not giving up a lot except to bigger opposing centers and our other guys would be at a similar disadvantage. Not saying it is optimal but there are scenarios where it might work for a few minutes.

yeah I generally agree - "Marek role" inasmuch as a forward playing out of position at C

I'll be honest, I never watched Jimmy Jr at Cornell. Is a he a big time rebounder and/or shot blocker? Just trying to foresee what his strengths / weaknesses are if he is playing center for a good chunk of minutes of Frank isn't ready.

Neither [although it seems like he's an ok rebounder].

He's a better offensive player than most centers, though -- so the mismatch might come on the other end [on paper], if we go this route.

yep and again seems to be JB's rationale of late in having a Lydon/Marek/?? man the 5 - offensive mismatch trade for defensive (i.e. no real rim protection) limitations

That link looked troubled. This one might be better.

Then if he can’t play which looks like the case, why come back and take up a roster spot
