Braden Davis in the portal

Oh man, this hurts. He was one of the SEC 4 stars that gave us our best QB room ever.
The red flags were there. Neither progressed up their respective depth charts, Davis got passed by a true frosh in Sellers and if you sniffed around those fan bases, there wasn’t much care that those 2 were transferring. Unlike a guy like Zeed that the UGA fans were upset about due to his upside.

It wasn't just one person. And the people that tried to point out the stars don't matter once you fail at your first spot got shouted down.

These two were wayyy overrated. Neither had a good skill set. Not sure how the so called experts missed so badly when rating them. That’s why I don’t take the ratings very seriously they’re often wrong

If you go back there are so many rating misses. Similar to the current nfl qb evaluation, it is like flipping a coin.

Massive ! Just because a kid has measurables doesn’t make him a great player. I’m sure he had the same shortcomings in HS
I think it can be hard to tell with some QBs. If he so physically dominated high school competition he may never have had to make quick reads or fit throws into tight spaces or feel a pass rush. That's why you stock pile QBs and discard those that don't live up to the hype. But when a guy is bad at his first college stop and transfers, the high school ratings go out the window. You have to look deeper. Was the guy a player but didn't fit the style of a new staff (Shrader)? Did a guy produce but get screwed by a dumb staff (McCord)? Did a really good guy with big upside get beat out by elite competition (Burrows)? Was a guy underrated but killed it at a lower level and show ability that could translate to a higher level (Ward)?

QB is so difficult to project. It takes much more than the player. Are the coaches good? The program?

From what we've seen at the NFL level, QB success often hinges on the organization as a whole. Look at Purdy, Darnold, Mayfield etc. all guys that found good fits.

They both sucked and are gone. ! I rember that statement from Go
Well you would think three guys from the SEC that were all highly rated would equal that.

Its also why I’m taking Collins with a huge grain of salt.

I think the kid from Texas is the future

HS ratings are all payola bull crap

Had they been guys that all narrowly lost a QB competition to a stud we could've concluded that. The two duds didn't fit that description and that was pointed out by people. People with orange colored glasses didn't want to hear it.

Shrader was the one guy that actually had film of him making plays but was a bad fit for the new staff at his first stop and turned out to be the one guy that helped us.

CDRW had a pretty live arm on film, he just didn’t progress up their depth chart. But I could get the excitement around him because we were QB recruit starved and he was a heavily recruited QB out of high school.

Davis had none of that and even regressed as a recruit before he committed to USC and then got beat out by every other QB that was there or joined their roster after him. His red flags had red flags. Some of the H0T Takes in that thread still crack me up.

Football history is littered with QBs with great arms that amounted to little. I would think football junkies would know that and think to temper enthusiasm a little when noticing he couldn't climb a depth chart of a team with only ok QBs. Or at least when level headed people point out that side of the discussion they could say, "Good point, even if disagree with you." Instead of some version of, "Shut up. You're an idiot. He's a SEC 4 star."

Not trying to be cruel but Davis might have the worst arm/throwing motion of any four star ever. I could see how CDRW could fool a scout, but Davis what were they watching.

CD-RW brought a jolt of energy when he came in vs ND, and we never really saw that guy again. He looked worthy of the hype then.

Yeah like I said I understood it with CDRW.

Davis was funny. I almost wonder if the staff saw Sellers go to USC, knew any other younger QB was doomed to second string at best at that point and decided to take a look to see who would be available.
