Brantley to Mizzou

Congratulations to Missouri. They will have a great rivalry fighting it out with Vanderbilt for last place each season in the SEC.

The SEC headlights hit Brantley in the eyes, and he still can't see. Tough loss for SU. Hope the kid made the right choice and isn't still honeymooning his visit after he submits his LOI. Could have maybe seen some early PT here.

Mizzu needed a DT, they put the full court press on the kid, they pulled out all the stops and it worked..

It would be nice to have a coaching staff who knew how to do that.

I don't disagree, they probably should have visited the kid last week, his position coach and Marrone but who knows if that was even possible, hindsight is 20/20. I don't think our staff lays it on as thick as many others do, fwiw

In case anyone missed it, Vandy has a new coach who got them to a bowl this past year, and has encouraged their administration to begin to upgrade the facilities, stadium, seating, scoreboard, and indoor practice facility. And a recruiting class that is ranked by all services in the top 25, for people who believe in that. Sounds like a syracuse dream

State schools do NOT compare to private institutions... Not even CLOSE...
Berkeley, Virginia, Michigan, UNC, etc might have something to say about that.

rather have OP...or actually MPB for two years because he can come in and play right away and to quote Doug... WE HAVE TO WIN NOW

Who knows?

Maybe he was told to consider another school.

Or he was underwhelmed by the facilities. As IB has pointed out before, his H.S. locker rooms might be nicer looking and he found himself saying - "What". Some on here think thats silly but not everybody thinks and cares about the same things. I can tell you from having been in sales for 8 years, people base their decisions on emotions that at times can't be quantified.

This, of course, is pure supposition. No one has the slightest clue whether facilities played any part whatsoever in this kid's decision.

As should have been infered from my post that it was pure speculation.

You're right. I wish we were Vanderbilt. Oh, the horror! Time to hang up the cleats I guess.

Good luck with that. There might be a handful of public schools that compare well with private U's, but most public Universities have a larger enrollment base, because they allow more students, which means lower standards.

Berkeley has 25k undergrads, and 10k graduate students. They were ranked #21 in the US News and World Report this year. UCLA, who I didn't even mention, is #25 in the same list and has 27k undergrads and 12 grad students. UVA is #26 on the list with similar enrollment numbers to SU. Michigan is #28, with over 41k combined grads and undergrads. UNC is #29, and so on, and so on.

Syracuse, meanwhile, is #62 on the list (also after the likes of Florida and, sadly, UConn). Look, I went to Syracuse, and I know it's a great education. But let's not act like just because a school is a state school it automatically has lower standards and a worse academic reputation JUST because it is large and publicly funded.

I think you are mentioning the exceptions to the rule. It sounds good, but it is not the norm...

Berkeley, UCLA, Virginia, Michigan, UNC, William & Mary, Georgia Tech, UC-San Diego, UC-Davis, UC-Santa Barbara, Washington, Wisconsin, Penn State-University Park, UC-Irvine, Illinois, Texas, Ohio State, Maryland, Texas A&M, UConn, Florida, Pittsburgh and Purdue are all public schools ranked ahead of Syracuse in the US News rankings. That's a hell of a lot of exceptions.

Mizzou is #90 on the list, FYI.

There are hundreds of public schools, you are still mentioning only a handful. I am also curious as to the enrollment numbers & requirements for those particular schools. Are those numbers similar to many private universities?
