Breaking News: Empire Sub Shop is Open in Liverpool

We picked up subs for dinner Saturday night. My Texas Hot Cheeseburger sub tasted just a little better than it normally does. I think it was the taste of victory that made it that much more enjoyable.

Tried it this weekend, first off the place looks good inside. A lot of room, two flat screen tv's, and the place was clean. The staff was friendly and the process was fairly quick. The bread was outstanding I mean really really good. As for the sub itself I got the cheeseburger sub with bacon and mozz cheese and to be honest it was good but I wasn't overwhelmed. There wasn't a lot of bacon and it was nearly impossible to find the cheese. Still tasted dame good but didnt meet the hype. Going to try again in a few weeks. In full disclosure I didn't get the hot pepper sauce and I hate Mayo so that was off to.

I'm going here sometime this wek. Wife is on board and everything. Can't wait to have my first myocardial infarction.

It's amazing Brodie.

Hating mayo is going to be a problem with this sub - it's a critical ingredient. When people order it with ketchup I literally get anxiety because that ruins it.

Yeah I thought that getting the works was probably a big part of it so I did take that into consideration when evaluating the sub. If there was more cheese it would have been a home run it just felt like it was missing something. Still a pretty good sub, I am looking forward to trying some of there non cheeseburger options.

I got one of those tonight. Totally different from what I expected. First, it's more like the loose meat sandwich that some Midwestern places make (I was anticipating actual burgers, I guess). Second, "the Works" really includes a lot of random stuff; it's like the kitchen sink, with some sort of hot pepper relish, oil and vinegar, grated parmesan, etc. Weird, but it worked.

Pretty good; maybe not worth a drive to Liverpool for non-Liverpudlians, but it was a tasty sub and I'd definitely be excited to try another one of their sandwiches next time I'm in the neighborhood.

I don't care for mayo either, but in this case I figured I need to go full works when I get it, which I will soon .

It was okay, but it wasn't the transcendent experience that was hyped here.

Aunt Cookies in Geneseo is better all day long.

That being said, nice addition to the ever expanding Village of L'pool food choices, which is becoming the locally owned alternative to the national chains down the parkway.

Retreat, Limp Lizard, Heids, Appethaizing, Empire Subs, L'pool Pizza, White Water Pub, Barking Gull is going to open full time supposedly, the Smoothie place, All American Grill. Some kind of Italian take out place going into the old Ponderosa.

The Arbiter of Subs (my son), and Cheeseburgers for that matter, agrees with me. Good, not all world best.

The Italian takeout place you reference is "Ascotis To Go", it's basically going to be a deli where you can get Italian meats, cheese, olives, etc. and sandwiches.

But most importantly, you can get Ascotis great meatball mix without having to go to Solvay

I used to get the hot pastrami after some beers across the street at Greene's Ale House. Definitely stop there when I go visit the family!

Is Greene's owned by Danny Greene, by any chance (if you know)? I used to run with him.
