Brent Axe says Reds job should be in jeopardy

He's right.

Red is going to get a third year, because <<<reasons>>>, but the university will take some hits based upon fan apathy and declining ticket sales / revenue.

If the program doesn't knock it out of the box in the portal [which will be more difficult than I think some posters expect, given the awful season we've had], next year could get very ugly in terms of fan engagement.

When is JW coming on Orange Nation?

And Brents not wrong, problem is there is a difference between should and will be in jeopardy.

But I sense he will get the dreaded vote of confidence and just be a dead man walking for 3rd season.

I'm not a big fan of Axe but everything he said was spot on. I like him shining the light on Wildhack. It's all very fair. The other thing that I think is a great point is that there is not one single thing that this team can hang their hat on. That's something. Not one thing. Please don't bring up the BC win. That game going to OT was ridiculously bad - it really showed more about what is wrong than anything positive.

And I still say 19 or 20 losses should be immediate termination. You should start looking for a new coach when either of those losses occurs.

Red should be fired.
Lack of talent from the the players is not the issue.
Lack of talent as it applies to the coach is. Honestly, I would rate him a D.

It makes me wonder all those years what he was doing on the bench during games.
Playing game boy? Wondering what he was going to eat for dinner?

He wasnt taking notes of how to make in game adjustments or how to change defensive strategy mid game.
And how to use substitutions to ride the hot hand.
Seriously, JB was one of the best basketball minds in the country. He was a great in game coach.
There is a reason why he is in the hall of fame.

When you tell everyone that the coach was completely unprepared for the offseason, and then the coach proceeds to drop the worst season in 60 years, and a possible 20 loss season and looks completely lost on the court either getting blown out or losing double digit leads every game, and your plan is just to run it back? Not only run it back, but then ask the fans to drop 50 million? It is a joke...

Perfect response! Speak brotha Speak!

Agreed.

And what you lay out applies to the coaching staff -- what is the single thing that we can point to that this staff does successfully?

Recruit?
In-game coaching?
Player development?
Good foundational systems on either side of the ball?
Playing competitively in games despite the opponent [versus getting blown out]?
Solid KenPom / NET advanced metrics, just coming up a little short due to roster limitations?

No, no, no, no, no, and no.

Red will get a third year, because that's how the University rolls. But it isn't deserved.

I don't think any decent player is going to want to come here with Red after this season. Their handlers wont let them and we're going to overpay for more mediocre players that Red can't coach to mediocrity.

Melo might be the only wildcard but honestly I’m not so sure

So he is on the Dino leash.
It sounds like we better get back in the NCAA tournament or else.

Next year could seriously ruin this university's long term relationship with Melo.
He will not sit idly by as his sons future is ruined.
Frankly, I am shocked he is not making waves now.
I don't think he has that strong a relationship with Red.
Gerry, yes, from their playing days.

It would be one thing if the word coming out of the school this past spring/summer was it's going to be a rough one, but we're building for a top-25 run in 25-26. That was not the case. There were a lot of people very excited for this season.

I was an optimist! I think our performance this season has been even worse than what some of the pessimistic posters on this board thought it would be.

Wait until we are 20-11 and lose in Dayton.

If get to the Big Dance, that would be progress over Year 1. My issue will be if we are better than Year 2, but not better than Year 1... i.e. 18-13. If you get a 3rd year, you need to have your best year.

This is where we dropped the ball with GERG. For his year 3, he needed to do better than Years 1 and 2 (5+ wins)... instead he went backwards and STILL got a Year 4.

I see no way anyone will be excited unless we are in the top 25 next year.
