Brown starting at Duke.

Not sure if I would characterize someone as unselfish who leaves their current team for a different team for more money and different scenery. Each to their own I guess.
this is an ignorant comment if you don’t know the details , which you don’t so i don’t blame you. maliq didn’t just leave for money and a new scenery. stuff happens ppl don’t know about.

“he doesn’t play for my team so he’s bad”

I never said he's bad. I also wasn't even originally talking about Maliq being selfish. So, there's that.

As JB predicted, Brown is not starting for Duke and is getting about half of the minutes he got here. Last night versus Kansas he got 16 minutes and had 8 points and 1 rebound. Before that against Arizona he played 24 minutes with 2 points and 7 rebounds. Against Kentucky he played 17 minutes with no points and 8 assists.

Just a sad situation all around. With Flagg and other ball dominant players, Brown will never get the ball. Maybe he is making more money and playing for a better team, but he gave up the opportunity to start and play 30 mpg here and develop his offensive game and be a leader and focal point of the program.

It's kind of weird how as soon as a guy transfers, even a popular one like Brown, it's like they cease to exist in our contentiousness anymore. I don't want anyone to boo him when he returns to the dome, but i don't think he deserves any great ovation either. He's just another bench player for an opponent.

I know this fits the narrative we like to tell ourselves, but Maliq is having a solid season at Duke. If you watch the games, he is a BIG contributor on defense and gets the ball moving on offense. He was a great pickup for Duke and one of the reasons they are going to be so hard to beat this year. Meanwhile, he is probably getting paid a ton of money to play basketball and get a free education at one of the best schools on the planet. Oh, and also compete for a national championship.

This situation is not sad for Maliq or sad for Duke - it's sad for Syracuse. And it's a trend we need to start reversing ASAP. We need to be competitive in basketball again and keep our best players here.

It's early. Let's see how Freeman progresses through the year.

He also led the team last night with 4 steals and numerous other tipped balls as well as 2 assists. He was a big part of Dukes 2 comebacks. The one in the 1st half he had a rebound, then a dunk then a 3 pointer. Timeout Kansas. He also played a huge role in frustrating Dickinson who only shot 4-11 and got booted for kicking Brown in the head. He has a role on Duke and he’s been doing it well.

That's fair unless he wanted to showcase his offensive game more, which he is not.

It's the perfect situation for him. He doesn't have the offensive game to show off, but he is a great glue guy that does things that aren't on the stat sheet. He can play within himself with no pressure to do more.

100% agree with you. Maliq is such a smart player. I'll bet he knows he doesn't have much offensive game. But he is one of the best defensive players in college basketball. If he can keep developing the point forward skills he has been showing lately, I'll bet he gets a shot to earn a bench role in the NBA.

Fans should just turn our backs to him, just like he did to us.

You know we took a bunch of transfers, right? We don’t exactly operate outside the system that seems to have hurt you deeply.

grepal - show us where the bad man touched your portal. :p

So doing the stuff that got us wins last year? I'm shocked!!!

He plays for Duke, he'll get any workout he wants for the next level if that opportunity is there for him. It doesn't matter if he plays 10 minutes for them or 30 for us, he's guarding NBA players in practice every day he's probably in a better spot for the next level than he was here sadly.

And he has another year at Duke.

Isn’t that telling? One of, if not our best overall player last year. He goes to Duke and is their 6th man glue guy that as I said when he transferred is the perfect piece for their team. Plays really hard for 20-25 minutes and makes a difference but is not a star by any means.

Kinda tells you the state of our roster and talent the last couple years.

brown would be a nice peice for this years team but i still prefer eddie at center

i also think freeman is going to be a way better player than brown, maybe even this year..and def by next year...freeman has way better tools than brown

brown is a better defender though, obviosuly

overally the offesne would be horrible if brown was the center instead of eddie and also if that meant no freeman too

i would still pick eddie + freeman over brown easily

Yeah. And if we play the teams they left, those fans should do the same.

Cheer for the laundry. Screw us, and he did, I will not pull for him at all. Guys that come to SU on the other hand are worthy of our gratitude.

The season is still young, but Maliq is currently leading the entire country in Defensive Box Plus/Minus. He's at 9.1, with a big lead over Matthews.

1.Maliq Brown Duke9.1
2.Cameron Matthews Mississippi State7.8
3.Jahmai Mashack Tennessee7.6
4.Joseph Tugler Houston7.4
5.Skyy Clark UCLA7.2
6.Cooper Flagg Duke7.2
7.Justin Mullins Northwestern7.2
8.Chucky Hepburn Louisville7.2
9.Tyler Tanner Vanderbilt6.7
10.Hayden Gray UC-San Diego6.7
Good for him, but he no longer wanted to be at SU. Everyone should get over it.
