Bruce Pearl, abruptly retires

Not a fan but gotta be honest, don't have a beef with how he played his departure. Taker care of his son giving him a program that is in excellent shape, gets out while he still has his fastball (or seems to), etc. I can think of some other family related transitions that didn't leave the program in as good of shape.

I do find it funny how some of these big names (ahem Saban, Dabo and now Pearl) are getting out or struggling to adapt just as the cheating is leveling out for everyone.
Here is the official video. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I'm not a fan of naming a successor slightly underhanded. Especially playing in arguably, the most competitive conference.

I don't disagree, there are a lot of talented coaches that are just waiting for their first chance. That being said, nepotism is never a good look, implied or otherwise. The fact that Bruce waited until right before the season is what concerns me. He didnt give them a chance to explore the options.
nah i am in no way excusing pearl or on his side...just speaking generally about "resumes" and overrated they are

So many articles out there explain why he’s awful.

This is a good summary.

“For others who have closely followed Pearl’s career for decades, the tears, the smile, the gimmicks all seem like little more than masking agents to distract the public from the fact that the man is a phony, a cheat, and a snitch.”

I've hated him ever since he tried to snitch on former Corcoran HS player, Jimmy Collins.

Which is ironic, given that a significant portion of his D1 tenure has been marred by cheating, recruiting violations, etc.

Scumbag hypocrite, and a blatant / repeat cheater.

Yes , it was sad what he did to Jimmy Collins coaching career. Sadly just read he passed away in 2020, didn’t know that.

to be fair, i think resumes are overrrated. Boeheim never coached before he got the Syracuse job, for example

i think so many people in all walks of life have jobs they shouldnt have simply bc they have a "great resume"...and a lot of former players who are very well liked suck as coaches

if he's good, he's good...we'll find out

Uhm college sports are a bit different now than when JB was hired. I bet JB made less than $50k for that job.

Really like Hummel. I understand he's also committed to NBC/Peacock for both college and NBA coverage, so that's interesting.

which is probably like 5 million today with all of the inflation lol

basketball is basketball - guys like boeheim and pitino would be good in any era - not sure what your point is but you are aware autry hadnt been a head coach either, right? and even though his resume is pretty good (i guess) he is struggling (thus far)

you think resumes matter more now than they did? i hold my stance that they don't matter more now FWIW
