Bryan Blair: New Syracuse AD

It's not that I don't like him but some of the stuff rubs people the wrong way. And it should be pretty obvious why "all of a sudden". Last year was complete garbage. His schtick works when he wins. I can also see why he was annoyed with Pena and Barnes. My issue with that was he encouraged Watson to go to Texas but pissed off with Pena and Barnes... And be pissed off behind the scenes, not in public.

My breaking point with him was encouraging one of the best long snappers in the NCAA, who Alabama jumped on the second he added his name to the portal, to leave so that his son will have a spot on the team...Good chunk of this board has talked a lot about Boeheim, Fran should get the same heat.
I am a bit surprised more wasn't made of that second issue on the board.

Nobody doesn't like him or support him, he's just not perfect on or off the field. And his performance last year should have been humbling.

Your breaking point with a head coach is about a long snapper? Wow ok

It's never an accident when a guy gets immediately snapped out of the portal. We're not going to be able to afford a LS if Alabama comes calling. Now, is Fran Jr. the right replacement? Great question, I don't know. But of all the positions for your kid to play, long snapper is probably fine (until he screws up, then the pitch forks come out)...

To be completely honest with you. As sarcastic as I think you are being (always appreciate sarcasm) a lot of what you said is not far off.

The Lally’s are not good people to put it bluntly. They have a ton of money, are huge donors who think they should run things and have final say on things. Which they absolutely should not. They belittle people to get the power they want, the bully people to get what they want, and they’ll flaunt their money and threaten to take away donations and NIL if they don’t get what they want. They want you to think they are the boss of the town and university and they’ll go to the hilltops to scream it. Not good people, unfortunately we need them for NIL lol

Fran is a different case. Fran’s had some moments behind the scenes I hope he’s learned from and regretted. He’s been an a**h**e to a few people in the community that have been nice to him. He’s been less than pleasant to a few players that have transferred out and former players. He’s got a lot to learn still. I don’t think Fran is a bad guy. I think he’s still learning how to handle himself in the position he is in. I think Fran does more good than bad and we all have our faults. The Lallys on the other hand, not good people. If they didn’t donate all this NIL, and I was in power of the university I’d be telling them to kick rocks. Very toxic people
I agree that Fran still has a lot to work on, especially when it comes to public relations and holding himself to the standard expected of a head coach in how he talks to and about people. I hope—and believe—that will improve as he gets older and gains more experience. At the same time, I can also understand where he’s coming from, especially since he comes from a background similar to mine.

And to be fair, he has been very vocally negative in the public with players who have asked for more NIL (Pena and Barnes). Also, coming from Bulldog and Richmond tells me more likely true than not. Where there's smoke, there's usually fire.
IMO I really don’t care if he says something about certain players leaving he has more insight than me.

The year after our special teams were a total mess. Just surprised the blatant nepotism wasn't a bigger deal regardless of position.
Oh you mean last year, I thought you were talking about over this winter. When our long snapper hit the portal and left.

how much we were we paying out Long snapper? a chance to play on a team that could win a NT and make some money?

I was. I got the timeline screwed up. I thought he went into the portal one year ago. My fault.

I’m still team Fran all the way. Love how he presents himself and our program. And i totally understand why he was annoyed with pena and Barnes
You all know I know one of the stories, and not as a rumor and shared it here. But I am still team Fran also, and the player he did it to is still team Syracuse in his heart. Keeps in touch with all the players, and even though some of you don't believe me, plans to get his SU degree. Taking 3 online course at SU this semester, and just enough at his new school to be enrolled, and then will transfer those credits back to SU. Should graduate from SU in December. I talked to the players mom about 2 weeks ago to see how everything is going. They only have nice things to say about SU. They just had to do what they did. Fran forced it with his behavior. But I want Fran to succeed. I hope it is all part of his learning curve. I also don't like the restaurant things reported. You need to be cordial to everyone in the community. He needs to get a filter, and hoping the new AD shows him that way.

I find it very interesting that so few people have commented on Tirico's interview. How about this as Tirico about social media such as places like this? and literally massively missing the mark like a dart board, innuendo, Massive presumption. I think that should be a very common theme as it relates to the absolute baloney that is spread. Like I said about 96 to 4. 96% garbage about 4% of truth. Opera Singer's Deluxe.

What happened to Bryan Blair? Did he get poached already? This thread seems to be all about Coach Fran. Or is it now AD Fran Brown?

Hmm. I was having a hard time reading that sentence with its intended meaning. I don’t think you should be allowed to put those two words together in a sentence even if separated by a comma.

It's not about a long snapper. It's a pattern of behavior. It's about how he reacts, especially publicly, and how he treats people. It's one thing when people who are not really insiders are just stating their opinion v. people like llandz , Bulldog04 and richmondcuse03 who are giving information that shows that pattern of behavior.

And based off what you just said, I see that you do not feel special teams are important. 🤣🤣

I've never encountered or heard anything bad about Fran for the record. I just said it's disappointing if what others have said is true re: service workers.

All my personal experiences with him and members of his staff have been incredibly positive and I can see why people want to play for him. I just said he can be rough around the edges -- I personally enjoy someone who's real, even if they're not always perfect. Nobody is -- we're all flawed individuals.

I get what you’re saying, but I still think you’re reaching. And I never said special teams don’t matter. They absolutely do. My point was that special teams were actually one of the more solid units, so using that as part of the criticism doesn’t really add up.To me, it just feels like you’ve already made up your mind and are connecting things to fit that narrative. That’s fine, everyone has their opinion—but it does come off a little biased.
At the end of the day, if he wins, all of this “pattern” talk is going to disappear real quick.

Spot on on a number of things. Agree that the university needs to improve on marketing the programs. Kind of confirmed the infighting with the boosters. Agree people need to stop being selfish and petty and come together for the sake of the university. Now will it happen who knows. As people have said, once people get money they seem to think they’re an expert in everything and their opinion is always right.
The university needs to get nil figured out that all alumni can support no matter their income level. Similar to what Orange United tried but run by the university. The school seems to continue to trip over their own feet with so many issues. Just baffles the mind how they continue to be ineffective on so many levels.
