The kind of selfish he is being, is the same kind we are everyday. We selfishly put ourselves through college, to earn more than others. We work extra, to selfishly provide for our family. We selfishly root for our own children, in the hopes that they will be happy. In that context, then yes, he's being selfish, and thank goodness, I'm selfish , everyday.. Good for him.
More or less. Except others, who do not intrinsically benefit from that selfishness, also rely upon him in this case, to a degree. If I am unhappy at work, for whatever reason, or simply decide to pursue another opportunity that is better for me, that could negatively impact my employer, coworkers, and clients. They have invested in me and rely upon me, to different extents. They don't have to be happy about my selfish decision, but in the end, if its best for me and mine, I'm going to do it.
