Fundamentals like footwork before the shot, how to come off screens in different ways, different ways to shoot off the dribble, off jabs, etc. sure.
But the actual shot? These guys have been playing the game and shooting the ball for so long at that point. Minor tweaks, ok. But it’s hard to change too much at that point IMO. It’s like relearning how to shoot.
dude - you are doing in reverse what you are accusing others of doing - you want to prove that buddy is not the problem so you are ignoring facts that don't fit that narrative. You realize Tech blew the game open at the beginning of the second half with our starters in or did you forget that?
The starters were taken out because they basically quit on the court 5 minutes into the second half. We had given up like 20 points in 5 minutes before the subs even came in.
Exactly. You wouldn't expect guys headed to some of the best college golf teams with a baseball grip and then have to reestablish a proper one...minor tweaks indeed.
GT scored 46 fricking points in the second half (when buddy played most of)...they only scored 27 in the first (where buddy hardly played)...IT IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. all 46 of GT points are not on Buddy - but the team is NOTICABLY worse on defense with him out there. He helps the offense a little, imo - especially with spacing and is a decent passer - but the overall net impact of him on the court is CLEARLY a negative...the only way he could be a positive out there is if he was hitting +50% on 3's (to make up for sub-par defense) - unfortunately he's only hitting 24% from deep this year - so that hasn't been the case.
I like him and wish him and his dad all the best - it's gotta be tough to be in such a cauldron - but if JB thinks playing his son enhances the SU chances of winning ACC games - he is not thinking clearly.
I just hope JB doesn't actually beleive that playing his son was giving his team the best chance to win and he did it to send a message to other players (i also think hughes got injured by chukwu's tomfoolery and that might have been part of it too)- but even that scenario is bad news for the squad - it means there are serious issues behind the scenes - which would make sense given how the team has played to this point.
Yup. Even if kids get to high school with poor form, it’s very late in the game and hard to change.
Usually good shooters have a good release and good form from an early age.

GT scored 31 points in the last 15 minutes of the game - that's on pace for over 80. that's also more than they scored in the entire first half.
buddy isnt entirely to blame for the increased scoring of GT in the second half - many players looked and played poorly - but if you think the team can be a good defensive team with buddy out there - you are sadly mistaken - he cannot rotate or move quickly enough at the top of the zone. period.
buddy doesnt work in the press - multiple times he didnt jump lanes and steals that someone like hughes or carey wouldve. We were also pressing and trying to speed the pace up during much of that time period.
I agree, Buddy is slow defensively. But I didn’t think we were playing well defensively regardless of who was in there. If GT scored less at certain points, the slow pace was at least part of the reason. You gotta look at points per possession moreso than points during a certain time period.

chukwu is bad in the press too - he's too slow of thought as the last man back.
did you see the 2 or 3 50-50 balls buddy went for and missed that turned into wide open dunks for GT? how about the corner 3 by carey that buddy didnt get back for on defense that was another dunk?I’d rather people post they don’t want Buddy in the team than post some of the garbage in this thread. Literally makes no sense after yesterday’s game.
It was 51-33 7 minutes into the second half when Buddy made a 3 and we had already given up 24 points to the point JB took Battle out at one point and he had a temper tantrum on the sideline.
he looked better in his first game than he does now - not playing has made him rusty and tentative. What did Carey do yesterday?

he was 3-11 from the floor and GT shot 60%!!! for the game...
do you think buddy should be getting 20+ minutes a game?????? I don't.
Carey, like the rest of the team has had the wind taken out of his sail due to Buddy getting undeserved minutes. Buddy could help eventually but he's supposed to be a three point specialist and he's hitting at 24%. Anyone else would be riding the pine. What did Carey do yesterday?

I'm one of JB's biggest supporters but playing his son so many minutes in an ACC game has to be playing mental games with ALL of the other players. I believe that is the issue here. Buddy should not be playing at all in ACC games, he looked lost, he looked small and he looked slow. Big deal he made a couple of threes, Ky Feldman could have done the same.
My theory on that is the players see Buddy playing and lost their desire due to it. It goes deeper than this one game, it's during practice too, players are likely asking questions to each other.Lol this is crazy talk.
Carey played the majority of those minutes before the extended run in the 2nd half. So did the rest of the team. The starters created the deficit.
I would have played Buddy and Carey together the last 10 minutes. We were not coming back, they both need minutes, and we play Monday. I recognize Battle and Howard are better but I'm ready to see more of others.
The best college teams all make and take a lot of them. Shooting has never been our speciality and we are living in a prior era.
Probably why we are mediocre the past 5 years.
The one year we were good at them we didn’t defend.
If you’re learning shooting fundamentals in D-1, it’s already too late.
IMO.
carey was 0-2 from the floor. not good but it's only 2 shots. buddy's 3-11 netted us just 9 points.
9 points is better than 0 but clearly taking a 11 shots to get there is not that efficient.
