But I think he deserves some time when teams prove to get the ball to the back line, like UVA and NC ST. It’s just crazy to think he makes one mistake and gives up a layup and he’s done for the night, and probably the next few games. Buddy is allowed to continuously hurt this team, but somehow was “the difference in the game tonight”... yes we all continue to criticize JB’s treatment of his son, but be fair.

This kid is totally watching the bench now to see if/when he gets pulled. The best thing that could happen for the development of Jesse is for Marek to go on a covid break. He's not going to shine like Richmond did when Buddy sat, but whatever JB is doing now with Jesse clearly isn't working.

If anything, the leash should be longer for a big kid who is learning.

I agree with Boeheim on this one. If you are going to let a guard get all the way to the rim and not alter the shot at all, you simply cannot be in there. Jesse has to be infinitely more energetic when he gets in the game or he won’t play.

If only JB had that standard for all of the players who let a guard get all the way to the rim.

Edwards is going in scared and knows he's going to the bench. Edwards definitely seems like the type that needs the quiet chat and confidence boost not the enraged 30 second cameo.
Any kid committing to SU should hopefully be fully aware of and prepared for JB's coaching, berating, and public comments when they aren't playing well.
That's just the facts.

I rewatched the highlights this morning and Edwards really was bad back there. No surprise he got pulled. He just can’t be in there giving up layups like he’s not even there. He’s getting opportunities to play but he’s very inconsistent. If he wants more mins he needs to earn them, I’ve got a ton of issues with JB on playing time but this situation isn’t one of them.

While your watching the highlights did you notice that Edwards wouldn't be so out of position if Buddy and GJlll could stay in front of anybody... for this team to make a run they need more size and you can't count on Sidbe with his bad knee... Edwards has to be allowed to play though his mistakes .

Jesse is in a tough situation... he is more of a offensive center and historically doesn't make a huge impact defensively. However, our needs for Center right now are defense and rebounding. So of course JB is going to give him a short leash.

I feel like Jesse will stay around because he seems to be the next center up unless Cuse pursues a transfer big this off season or if Frank improves dramatically (which is hard if he also doesn't play).

That one move around him was bad. He had no reason to jump on that one. His movement allowed the little guard to go right around him. He just needed to stand his ground with his hands way up, would have caused the guard to rethink, or alter his shot.

All that being said, it was 2 points. We weren't losing the game on that play. Marek gave up far more points being out of position yesterday. Sometimes you let the kid play through it and they do better. JB allows that for some and NONE for others.

I think it's in the best interest of both SU and Jesse for him to be "nudged out" next year. If Jesse went to a Patriot League-level program, he could get more minutes and probably even be a starter. I just think its a better fit for him.

He's not particularly coordinated, he's weak, and he's the definition of lumbering when he runs. You can't be all three of those things at this level. It just is what it is. Some human beings are cut out for ACC basketball and others aren't.

He seems like a nice kid and I want him to be successful. But it doesn't seem like SU/ACC is the place that facilitates that opportunity.

Edwards is actually getting into games.
What do you do with JBA?

This roster has a lot of high usage guys and low usage guys. It’s not constructed well.

JBA seems to me like he has a higher chance of becoming a Baye Keita-type player. Limited offensive ability, but has a high motor and can get up and down the court. I think his ceiling in that regard is much higher than Jesse's.

I would take Jesse all day over JBA.
One of them is getting minutes now and the others isn’t.
If JBA were Keita he would be able to play defense and just can’t catch the ball or do anything on offense.
Keita was a rim protector. I don’t see that from JBA.

Yeah, I've seen other guys say this about JBA and I have to tell you, I'm just not seeing it. He gets bodied more than Jesse. And his offense is worse. I know he was supposed to have a jump shot, but his form is terrible. I don't know how to fix the center situation. Neither does our coach apparently.

What is a center suppose to do when it’s 2-1 or 3 on 1 down low. If he attacks the ball it’s a dunk. If he plays the middle then u get a uncontested 10 footer. If there is a guy in the corner god forbid the center doesn’t get out ther to contest. It’s impossible. I don’t understand getting mad at the center in that situation

It's funny, this board goes back and forth on should a guy be pulled for bad plays.

I said this last year and i will say it again, if Cuse does not grab a center in the transfer market, they will be mediocre again next year. I'm not going to believe we have a good center on the team until they go out and prove it.

Edwards can shut out another center in man to man defense.

He doesnt know how to rotate in a zone and gaurd more than 1 player/area at a time. It is confusing and the coach wants to be able to shift priorities in terms of what to gaurd throughout the game.

Interior players getting their career highs in rebounds and points against this team is on the SCHEME...not the players.

This NC state game was the only game in which SU was outrebounded and won this year...barely.

Rebounding is very important for this team and edwards is pretty good at getting boards. play him in a man to man approach...or simplify his zone responsibilities...its really not that hard.

Jesse’s feet are too slow, we just need to accept that. I rather see frank get time.

I agree penetration is a huge problem the past two years. We all know the fix for that.

I feel like we forget what having a competent center is like though. Somebody like Christmas could help some of those problems.
