Bye Bye Boatright.

Boatright's a good player. I actually want him back, because I don't want UConn fans to make excuses for their games vs. us.

This is purely speculation, but wasn't Boatright a USC commit during the OJ Mayo/Tim Floyd issues? Is it possible he received improper benefits during that period. I know he committed as a 7th or 8th grader, so that left a long time for him to hang around the USC program when there was clearly shady stuff going on.
I thought it was WVU.

I thought it was WVU.
Boatright committed to USC when he was 14 years old.

After the fallout from that school (OJ Mayo/Tim Floyd) in 2009, he later re-opened his recruiting.

He committed to WVU, thinking that they were only taking 1 point guard. After Jabari Hines committed to WVU, he decommitted. He then ended up at UConn.

Here's a Story from ESPN about a young Boatright.

Could be a made for tv movie.

In all seriousness when is uconn going to get some more serious rules violations they are the USC of college basketball

hmmm. just read that online article about boatrights new issue and the way i read it, uconn suspended him not the ncaa. the ncaa only gave new info to uconn. it may be up to uconn whether to play him or not and risk forfeiting games if they play him and then the ncaa rules him ineligible. so if uconn is so damn sure this is bs, play the kid.

Just proves that it might not be worth ticking off the NCAA and thumbing your nose at them. They are vindictive. If I was a UConn fan I'd be upset at Calhoun and their administration for trying to circumvent the NCAA restrictions. It sure appears that it has ended up hurting the entire team , their program, to try to stick it to the NCAA by trying to outfox them and the ripples may last longer than Calhoun and Drummond do at UConn. (By the way I don't blame Drummond). Maybe I'm nuts and alone in thinking this but I think it's all a matter of poor judgement, refusing to eat a bit of humble pie and picking your battles.

i don't get that either and i don't even like uconn. i know he didn't play out of the box because the ncaa had to clear him. they make no sense sometimes. whether the kid is eligible or not, make a call. wonder if the ncaa was brought additional info that says something prior they were given was bogus?

New info. Someone (inside) lied. More to come!

I am all for the major conferences separating themselves from the rest of the pack.
yep. Six super conferences of 14-16 teams each. Ditch the NCAA, keep all the money, and pay the players.

The NCAA cleared him twice. What a disgrace.

400 tickets for his friends/family at the game tomorrow. I'm sure the NCAA will give them refunds.

Refunds? For something you probably never paid for in the first place? And this program is so dated! Stealing laptops is passé', if you're going to be in the news, you gotta get your hands on some iPads!

I am no UConn fan, but their violations about the texts are now legal and the Miles kid never played a game for them. I would definitely trade # of championships and post season record with them any day. We did get banned from the NCAA in the 90s.

Let's worry about us and making it past the sweet 16 again and getting another RING!

So you really think Boatright came up with 400 tickets? They bought them and organized buses. Do you remember Gerry McNamara's Scranton crowd??

There were no iPads in 2005. It's your reference to laptops thats "dated". ;)

Didn't this happen at the beginning of the season already? What an odd story.

Double Jeopardy?

Look, if the NCAA investigation was incompetent, that's their problem. Now they're screwing with this kid because they hate Calhoun. Nothing else.

I don't see the hate, the NCAA has done its usual job in not giving any significant punishment to Calhoun over the years.

UConn fans can cry that it "predates" UConn as much as they want. This happens to them almost every year it seems; recruit cleaner kids. And I don't think the NCAA was too happy with teh whole Drummond situation.

Kinda interesting that Huggins got a committment from Boatright, but still went after Jabrie Hinds. I wonder if Huggins knew somethign would be up with Boat's eligibility?

You are aware the Andre Drummond isn't using or taking anyone's scholarship, right?
He's not now, but he was.

Apparently he's the only grown up in the room over there who realized what Calhoun told him to do was wrong.

Well, UCONN worked hand in hand with the NCAA to determine what they could do within the rules to get Drummond on the team.
If the NCAA isn't happy with the outcome, they have no one to blame.

If roles were reversed I'd be p*ssed too. While I do take a special joy in any of UConn's failings, the NCAA is just infuriatingly incompetent.

There's a lot of misconceptions about Drummond out there. There's really nothing sneaky going on ... the kid lived and prepped in CT. Described UConn as the school he's always wanted to go to.

If UConn really worked hand in hand with the NCAA to get Drummond a Husky , I'd be ticked too. However I'd have to be honest with myself and realize logically that it is pretty wierd that an organization handing out a punitive sanction "would work" with the program they were punishing to circumvent the effects of their own ruling. Really doesn't that sound very odd? Was it the NCAA or UConn that claimed the NCAA suggested this option to UConn so Drummond could play or did UConn just take advantage of a loophole in the NCAA rules? ? The blowback and publicity for both of them sure wouldn't be positive as we're seeing.

On the surface, it does appear their treatment of Boatright doesn't seem fair but I doubt any of us know all the facts regarding this young man's long saga. The NCAA has never been known for its evenhandedness that's why playing with fire can result in getting burned.

OMG, another team's fan actually understands the violations brought against us by the NCAA and doesn't just rely on message board cliches, and even keeps his own team's past transgressions in mind for context!

Bravo to you.

The NCAA sucks.

"The NCAA sucks"

How come it only happens to UConn then? Other than Sampson at IU, most of the recent, big-name recruiting violations (or eligibility issues) have been involved with UConn.

Calhoun never does it by the book, and it's starting to catch up to him.

It really is quite fair. The NCAA clearance is based on information available. Who knows what came up after that. I mean, let's face it, UConn is about as filthy as a program can be over the past decade or so. I'm sure they work very hard with the NCAA to make sure the information they get is accurate. It's worked out well for them though, so kudos to the Huskies I guess.

It's the same as submitting your taxes, just because they accept them, doesn't meant they can't come back when additional information comes out and bang you for it after the fact.

Maybe he had lousy test scores and ACT or SAT invalidated his last test just recently and that was his sole qualifying score. Perhaps the information he submitted said his amateur status was adequate, but they found new information. Maybe he took online courses at a school they just determined was fraudulent (that happened quite a bit while I was there).

Who knows, could be anything.
