Class of 2023 C Luke Wilson (GA) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/21/26)

Eh, the perception of someone's shooting can be greatly affected by just a few shots. For example Doty was 46-141 32.6% from 3 this season. Take away just the second half against Duke, the half he was exhausted and injured, and Doty would have been 45-133 33.8% on the season. Many people would be saying he was almost a 34% shooter who showed great improvement. Stats can be deceiving, one bad half can change how a season is viewed. When I watch Doty shoot free throws I see great form and confidence. I am willing to bet he ends the season north of 35% from three with less volume than 25-26.

OMG this thread. Every single thread is turning into these back and forth and over analysis. This thread has turned from great news to orange fan mental breakdown. Some people need to take some deep breaths. We won’t know what we have until games are played and coaches can coach. We have some good pieces and some questions potentially.
For clarity no one knows if this is a deep NCAA team, a fringe team or worse. Some people might be over valuing some and others are under valuing players.
Right now they are all individual ingredients that need to be mixed by the staff.
People relax and let's just see what happens.
Let us know what the appropriate post content should be, and what constitutes under- versus over analysis. Seriously, what would You want to see discussed here? Or, if as you say, we should just wait to see what happens, let’s just all shut up and wait until November. What are we even doing here?

“OMG”—this type of threat represents more of a “mental breakdown” than the most exasperated criticisms of the roster. But, yeah, since we don’t know anything, a discussion forum seems pretty useless. Of course, the same argument will be made in November, December, and January… because we should also wait until the season has played out before we can comment. Rinse and repeat.

Don’t you dare say anything negative! I am too brittle to absorb, parse, or cope! Conform to my sensitivities!

What’s funny is that last year we came into the year seeing a flame thrower like Kingz, adding Betsey , having Donnie who showed he could shoot it then George with promise at 34 pct and we were putrid because we couldn’t execute good offense and get good shots and the guys who should have been hitting weren’t. So maybe with better shots and shot selection we have better outcomes?
Anthony probably took like 15 obvious bad threes that he made maybe 1 of.

He cleans that up and he'll magically look like a much better shooter, even if his actually shooting skill doesn't get any better.

You’re an adult insulting people on a message board but I’m the dumb one. One day you’ll have to grow up man, I suggest it, it’s pretty fun when you can show an ounce of maturity.
Dude, I believe you’re the one who started this particular chain, by injecting personal projections of psychology onto a member. That was dumb. As was that response, insulting you.

Both.

Have you not ever seen the Eleanor Roosevelt quote: “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people?”

That’s an intentional or incidental hallmark of the best discussion forums—you discuss and debate the ideas and the facts. Not the poster’s imagined ‘personality.’

They really only played 15-20 minutes together. Joseph would come in at the four to provide shooting and skills needed to be a good offensive team.
Is that accurate? Seemed like it was more often than that. Not ‘common’ or the standard, but… more. I also didn’t like it much, though I liked each player individually.

Agree for the most part if we are looking at things right now without a summer to evaluate and see any improvements. Siby at a minimum might be more serviceable as a defensive backup if he makes a jump but still a what if. Goodrick has 9 D1 games - so we know nothing.

Doty is a 6th man if he isn’t going to be 35 pct or better from 3. Not saying that can’t develop but that’s my measurement with him.

Where I’m going to counter is Folefac. He is a decent athlet, high IQ and that bully ball forward type and only a freshman. I don’t care it was the MAAC - he performed in multiple big moments against good teams and in the conference tournament in big moments. He can be useful behind Sadiq and he’s someone at the 4 who you can post against a slimmer 4 man to force the defense to counter because he is a good passer out of the post.

The big challenge will be lead guard and how we attack that. If we do upgrade and attack it with the money we still have ( considering we were on Wilkins and Freeman with money to land both I doubt Wilson changes that) can balance this all out a lot more. I think that status quo plus Folefac and a full summer of work can make a big difference with a talented and much bigger staff. Taking the uncertainty out though would certainly make a lot of us feel better that’s for sure.

We all should remember we’ve been dealing with a staff that has not progressed a single player over a summer off season so far. Almost every other winning program that’s pulling in kids from smaller schools that has spent the money to build a talented and deep staff is leaning on growth and improvement and generating results. It’s a must have not a nice to have in this environment. So while we always need better at every position we will never be where we want to get without a staff that evaluates better than a fan base and improves and progresses players along.
You stole my answer!

This is a weird time. As it seems i keep repeating, i am probably a sucker for highlight reels. If I had seen only the highlights of Dual and Siby, and not seen any statistics or ratings, I would think we are in great shape, and these two guys alone would be creeping toward the NBA. But, then seeing the rest of the performance and production and statistical landscape, I’m left with just heaps of questions, about them and our team potential. I’m curious but not confident. So much will depend on the PG, and I’m not seeing much that would be differencemaking available in the portal.

True. Last years team provided enough tape of how not to scheme up looks for your shooters and what shots are bad shots to make a documentary. Add the prior two years and you have a multi season series for the Ocho.

During the season I got push back for saying the talent not fitting together and having players that don’t play a winning brand of ball was hit as much if not more of an issue than the talent itself last year (coaching was obviously #1 but that factors into both) and evidently theres multiple things that are supported by that including what you just stated.
Also, most of our transfer outs are still at HM schools or top MMs so clearly other coaches and evaluators believe they have talent and potential, not just our putrid staff from last year. Every team has players that will put up stats because points, rebounds, etc have to come from someone even on the worst teams in the country and it’s the coaching staffs job to find the right guys fit wise and guys that are actually putting up stats that matter and contribute to winning. Players that put up numbers for winning teams will typically translate better because clearly their game and stats are associated with that winning. That’s one thing I really like about our transfers so far. Dual and the Siena guys are coming from winning teams and tournament teams while Wilson is also coming from a winning team.

You don't want people to dissect the recruits and how they fit on the recruiting board? I don't get it
If you are talking about Luke and how he fits in his thread, sure go ham. Talking about the entire program in the Luke thread...yeah take it to the regular board. Again not a difficult concept.

As I said in my follow up if you want to talk the whole team and analyze move it to the main board and have at it or consolidate it into one thread. If you want to talk Luke in Luke thread great, go ham.
I do think my people keep turning every thread into a team analysis thread. It would be nice if it didn't happen in every thread. Lastly people seemingly are panicking in April. Seems a bit over the top. So yeah maybe BEFORE panic, we let them play? I know a crazy concept.;)

How many shooters over the course of the season do not have a half of a game where they are playing tired or playing hurt? How many do not have a bad half here and there? You could play this game with every 3 point shooters percentages on the season. After a full season of 141 shots he was at 32.5%. That’s all you can say. He will have half games where he is exhausted/playing through pain here too without question, along with consistently playing tougher opponents.

Agreed - he’s a better shooter than numbers indicate. He just needs better shot selection.

Not sure if the UNDERSIZED statement is in reference to Luke Wilson's 6'9" height but here is a reminder of some pretty solid 5's we have had here at that height (or shorter)

Otis Hill
Etan Thomas
Jeremy McNeil
AO
Big Rick
Rakeem Christmas
DC played center as a junior and did fairly well , set the school record for blocks in a season until Etan came along.
And if DC just concentrated on defense, rather then doing all things he probably could have blocked more. Plus DC did intimidate most players from other teams from getting near him in the paint.

Your definition of 'panic' seems different from mine.
To me, the discussions bring up 'concerns.' Maybe you're imagining posters sweating profusely and hammering out missives on a phone with one foot over the ledge. I don't read any of this that way. People express themselves differently.

Concerns and wants seem like perfectly fine matters to discuss, as valid as jubilation and praise.

I won't dispute your issues with what should be discussed where, but even though threads do often go off the rails, it's important to keep in mind that we are talking about a team game, and no one player operates independently of others. Comparisons and relative history are natural topics within a thread. Discussing roster fits seems sometimes appropriate, even in an individual player's thread.

How about this amazing great mind idea, or let's say declarative statement. There are a ton of people who are huge Syracuse fans for the right reasons and they find it very disheartening to listen to a now pervading negativity that exists on this board by people who post literally incessantly. Making it almost like syracuse.com. Here's the idea go somewhere else and spread troll soup elsewhere. My gosh I'm probably gonna get into a lot of trouble for that. It may be I will just have to go somewhere else. Who knows maybe you're not a troll you're just extremely negative I really have no idea but I know there's a lot of them here and they like me very much. I do however enjoy a lot of interactions and as stated always their mindset is much bigger than their opinion as it relates to a sports program.

Pretty cool.
This guy says he could legit be a "20 and 10" guy for us on our level. That would be something.

Honestly, i'm kinda jazzed to have him versus Owen Freeman. Owen seems like a very 'solid' player. He'd be good on a really good team. But, Luke seems like he's a more dynamic player with a higher (eventual) upside.

Yeah, the children should probably go elsewhere. Adults should have the capacity to deal with more than one perspective. The "go somewhere else" thing reads exactly like the "if you don't like our country, get out" thing, which is patently absurd and moronic. Critical discourse is a fundamental principle of strong cultures. If that's not working for You, maybe You could leave the room. As i've suggested many times, start a pep rally site, and only let in those who subscribe to your views. You could issue members a Pollyanna lapel pin. Or a unicorn leaping proudly over a rainbow. Whichever brings the most joy to your little heart.

Read my posts. Find something "trollish" in them. Please, go ahead and try.
