Class of 2023 C Luke Wilson (GA) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/21/26)

Villanova says what?
Do you mean the 2016 Villanova team who's starting "forward" was a 6'11" guy who played 23+ minutes. Or the 2018 team whose 4 guards 6'3", 6'5", 6'7", and 6'8". While they played a 4 guard lineup they were big guards.

My only argument is if you are going to play small ball you need very special group of players to make up height. Your message proved exactly my point.

2016 Villanova 4 out of 5 starters made it to the NBA with 6 total. 3 of them are considered stars (Brunson, Hart and Bridges). The guy who they had enough confidence to take the winning shot in the title game is not one of the six.

2018 Villanova was very similar except they had 7 guys who made it to the NBA.

So again, small ball is the unicorn, if there are a whole bunch of guys that can make up for lack of height.

You can't please everyone, some people are negative. The best thing for everyone is to wait until we actually see this team at the end of November and midway through December. Then the naysayers can come out and say see I told you so, if the record is bad.
But I Don't believe most of them will come on and say I was wrong if Gmac is doing well.
No one cares about saying "I told you so". We want a WINNING PROGRAM. I don't understand how legitimate critiques are being shot down daily on this board.

People will say they are wrong if Gerry is doing well because at the end of the day it's about the number in front of Syracuse and making the NCAA tournament.

Yeah, let's close the board down until midway through December. You wanna give us a specific date?
Forecasting 'naysaying' is quite the hobby. Do you have a little hat for that? 👒

I think everyone wants us to do well. That doesn't mean we can't show concern about the roster.
For all the money we have, it doesn't feel like we are shopping at the top table so far.

You’re probably right, but it goes both ways. If we struggle many of the Gmac superfans will have all sorts of excuses. It’s really kind of human nature. Few people want to admit they were wrong.

Count me as a member of the GMAC fan club - as I was hoping SU would choose him over all other realistic replacements for Red. I favor GMAC because he creates a "give max effort and see the court) mindset (As did Coach Boeheim over the course of his career, remembering all of the quick hooks and screaming at various guys who weren't rotating or trying hard enough).

GMAC has a Rick Pitino mindset. I absolutely love that & I know many here hate Pitino (I'm not in that crowd obviously). He also values ball security and his teams get good shots, even late in the shot clock.

With this said, I'm very happy to be held accountable when I'm wrong about something. I don't feat that at all. Isn't it a bit early to be suggesting that people might be wrong? Conversely, what if GMAC succeeds? Will you personally own up to making coments like this or will you change to a dupe acct?

Presently, its time for fans like you and me to unite. Lets get behind the program and give things time to develop. There were plenty of Siena fans that, two years ago, weren't really sold on GMAC as the head coach. His success there aside, I applaud him for bringing in hard nosed players who gave it all they had. If he does this at SU, he'll lay a foundation for the future. The best thing about GMAC is that he can build a program and he knows what SU fans expect.

I know GMAC wants to win now, because winning is all he's ever done, but let's all admit that his progam is very underfunded. Irregardless of who the SU coach is, the truth is, winning at SU has become extremely difficult. A HOF coach like Boeheim struggled to win in his last few years. His key assisteant, Red, couldn't win either. Who exactly do you suggest COULD win right away at SU, other than GMAC? I'm all ears.

Lets also admit, the game has really changed. College teams are basically minor league teams now - the NCAA was forced to compete with the G-League or...or college ball would have died out. NIL is here to stay and players this year are earning significantly more this offseason than they did last year.

Comments like this? I was responding to baggerbob’s comment that “ I Don't believe most of them will come on and say I was wrong if Gmac is doing well.” simply pointing out that it goes both eays. I certainly hope SU does well, and will certainly eat my share of crow if we are as good as some people expect.

I dont think we've ever had one that was a center. Off the top of my head Catmelo Anthony and Billy Owens are the only two I can think of - and they were both #1 recruits coming out of high school and top 3 NBA draft picks.
