Class of 2023 C Owen Freeman (IL) Portal to Auburn

Agreed and when we were essentially told that Gerry was going to be the hire largely because he'll bring NIL that no other coach we could hire would bring... this is what his dollars brought us? This is not what most expected, which is why some are voicing concern and disappointment so far. There is still time so let's see what happens.
Who told us that Gerry was hired because he would bring in more money? There was some board rationalization that that was why he was hired, but in the end that counts for nothing. Was this something said by the University? If so I missed it. If Gerry is having a hard time bringing in NIL, do you really think Hodgson or Schertz would have brought in a bigger enough amount to make a difference?
I think it is mostly a matter of fans’ expectations being too high and not aligned with the actual availability of players and the increased cost to sign them. No it’s not a matter of settling, it’s being realistic about the NIL we have and the options players have.

If you're seriously asking this question, you're right, you definitely missed it. This was reported by insiders.

Schertz supposedly turned the job down, not sure what the story was with Hodgson, but I think there is some confusing of why GMAC was hired and the potential benefit of the hire.

My earlier comment was simply that it was largely reported by people "in the know" that the hire ultimately went to Gerry because he was going to galvanize some to contribute a significant amount of NIL that another coach would not be able to do.

we pretty much doubled our nil. that's significant.

Again, missing the point man
i replied to this.

They do have 2 final fours since 2019 so ya they among others are above us now
in that last 5 years auburn has made the tournament 5 times, 3 times as a protected seed. its insane to pretend like they arent a far better basketball brand today than syracuse is.

Better Basketball Brand, absolutely not, better than Syracuse Basketball over the past 5-7 years, yes. It’s a big difference. I live in the Midwest and get randomly stopped or shouted at once a month for wearing Cuse gear. Syracuse is still relevant and I’m not arguing that the relevancy isn’t declining. No one is blind. I’ve met 0 Auburn Basketball fans, football is a different story, and I have lived in Chicagoland for over 25 years. We’re one good season from 20k in the dome again. As much as we bag on JB toward the end the dude built an empire of good will for 40 years. Three generations of a cult is hard to kill.

Syracuse is a school with a national presence. The SCHOOL is a brand name for sure, that doesn’t mean anything about the basketball program. How long have you spent in Alabama because that is where a state school grad is going likely to end up. People don’t go out of their way to go to Auburn University. When it comes to basketball it is indisputable that players know far more about Auburn and their success than Syracuse, who hasn’t been nationally relevant since most of them were in elementary school
