Class of 2025 C Paul Mbiya (Congo) to Kansas

Name a school that’s pulled scholarships in basketball. It doesn’t happen often.

Besides JB being lazy one of the reasons his recruiting fell off is because he lost AAU and HS relationships for treatment of certain players. That’s exactly what this would be. Not to mention you would piss off George with Souare.
You answered your own question by saying “it doesn’t happen often” and not “it doesn’t happen.”

Anyway, no need to get stuck on this issue as I was only making one point of an extreme situation which many of the slimy but winning coaches/programs would do to win. We have an open scholarship so we should go after Paul.

Still waiting for you to give an example.

Most likely head to Oregon.
Oregon sucks.

We aren’t rescinding an offer to Souare or likely anyone. It virtually never happens because it’s horrible optics and AAU coaches/handlers take notice. Not to mention Souare is here to help get George. One of the most short sighted posts I’ve read here.
Agreed. And everyone knows you don’t rescind scholarships and that the optics would be horrible. But his larger point stands. We should go after this kid. He’s a difference maker.

Women’s, nice. And thanks for proving the point.
So I guess women’s sports don’t count or you just don’t want to believe that it happens. More times than not you aren’t going to hear about it because as I said in my first post on the subject, which I have to keep referring to, the school will suppress it or blame the athlete.

I’m not just making stuff up. Sorry that the realities of the business of sports hurt your feelings and other areas.

I generally don’t linger on subjects for too long when it goes nowhere, or back on forth for too long, or research to prove a point. At some point I let it go and agree to disagree. But, here’s an article that states that it happens in college sports more than you would think, and the article also talks about how a school will spin it.

Hope this article provides some clarity. If not, I will allow you to get in the last word/shot or whatever and just agree to disagree.

I believe schools in the P4 conferences cannot revoke athletic scholarships for athletic reasons and haven’t been able to since 2015. Athletic reasons includes finding a player better than another player.

That said, I do not believe the new center we recently added has not been formally announced and probably still has not been processed fully. He might not be on scholarship yet. In any event, we don’t think we would drop him. That is not hoe AU does business. This is not Louisville or St John’s.

A 15-year-old article doe not help you make your case.

We would have room to add another player if we want. Men’s basketball can have up to 15 scholarships now. So that point about scholarship restrictions or potentially dropping players (which would never happen) is irrelevant now. But we’d have to find the $$$ to add Mbiya.

I guess the point is not that it never happens but it is rare. I think that most of the time if a player gets "the talk" the coaches try to find a place for the player to land.
