Why are you so dismissive of Ballard? He’s an experienced top 100 transfer who would’ve given us defense, rim protection, rebounding and some inside scoring, and he is from Syracuse so we had a possible advantage there.

Some "advantage" -- he committed to Mississippi State yesterday, meaning that Syracuse went 0 - 3 trying to recruit this kid.

I'm dismissive of him because we've recruited him three times, and he has spurned Syracuse three times. Despite him being from Syracuse. It gave us zero advantage, because he didn't want to play here.

His mentor in HS was Billy Edelin, who played at Syracuse. On paper, that gave us a "possible advantage," too. But Ballard didn't come to Syracuse, because he never really wanted to. Then, or now.

As evidenced by him choosing other teams THREE TIMES in lieu of playing for the home town team.

If this kid wasn't from CNY, then nobody would even bring him up.

I think it's because we already signed somebody who they are ticketing to start, and Ballard wasn't interested unless he got a big pay day. Looking at the website that has estimated transfer portal NIL expense listed next to each guy, you can't pay for 2 starting centers, especially when 1 of them isn't that interested and costs twice as much as the guy we already got. We have money this year, but not an unlimited amount.
