Cal Postgame...

I think first time I saw it was GT game when Haynes King did that TD run up the gut. A number of the chunk plays up the gut are due to extremely bad angles taken by him. I hope that's an area we upgrade in next year.
I think all the safeties have had the moment where they took bad angles leading to chunk runs.

Moment yes, it happens to all of them. It just seems to have happened to him pretty often this year. I think at least 3-4 TD's were where he was the last line of defense and he wasn't in position to make the play, either charging at the wrong gap or being at a bad angle.

Now you can ask why is your Safety being put in position where he has to be the last one to make the play that often - it's a valid question so there may be other issues to work on and it may not be just on him, but I've seen it far more often this year than I have in previous squads here.

I don't know if the change is necessarily him or something else but it needs to be fixed.

We aren't asking them to figure out the cosin or whatever. They just need to be better at figuring out what the straight line to take is to make a tackle.

Trigonometry is probably a good explanation for some of our safety tackling choices.

Its a combination of different factors. Having their eyes in the wrong places, not understanding their assignment on certain plays. Some times its just the growing pains of learning a new position.

Yeah I'll be curious to see what the Defensive backfield looks like coming out of the Spring.

Devin Grant could be an all-conference safety he really needs to dial it in more. Has all the tools but is maddeningly inconsistent.
