Talked to a few analysts and scouts about Russell's basketball skills. :)

From CHAT GPT - re: playing in January FWIW. Would likely not be able to play Sr., year, if we even think he will be here that long.

General Rule: A high school graduate who enrolls full-time in college within 1 year of high school graduation maintains their eligibility clock (the 5-year clock for D-I, 10 semesters for D-II). But playing immediately in January depends on other factors:

  • Must be a qualifier per NCAA standards: This includes GPA, core courses, and standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) requirements.
  • Must enroll full-time in college in January.
  • Must be on the team’s roster and cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

⚠️ Winter sports like basketball have specific start dates. The NCAA basketball season typically begins in November, so a January enrollee could join mid-season, assuming all other requirements are met. However, the coach/school must choose to roster the student mid-season, which isn't guaranteed.

I'm still trying to nail down whether Calvin would play for Syracuse basketball this coming season, assuming he does enroll in January!

Physical and aggressive player from the tape and lots of emotion. Those guys, assuming they are team players are easy to find minutes for.
Yeah. 38 points and 19 rebound in a quarter final game. What little film that has been posted here he appears to be a relentless worker on the court. Reminds me of Oshea Brissett's high school film clips as far as his constant motion and work ethic. Not sure if he is a lefty or ambidextrous. Definitely uses the left a lot.

So, we are back to 0 for 2026, huh.
I am well aware that possibly a great number of existing squad can return, however, whether we get to the tourney or not next season could be mostly portal kids. SU will need a replacement for Kyle, JJ, and most likely Donnie. Not sure about Kingz. Zephyr is a senior I believe. So it’s Luke, Kayian, George, Diawia, Womack. White, (Kingz) not sure, Suoare. Russell maybe that’s 9 if Kingz plays. Lots of holes.

Is there anyway we could get Donnie for one more year?
Yes there is a way but it would probably involve him getting injured and not be able to play again this season. But this is not what we want to see and it would still be just a possibility of him returning to Syracuse.

Kingz can come back.

I hate to be the downer here, but if this guy has a chance to be a special player on the football field as we have heard, I'd rather he spend his time doing strength and conditioning for football. The great wide receivers now look like linebackers used to.

He can still work out while participating in basketball. Let the kid do something that he enjoys! Not many people get the chance to play both

Id say less than 0% chance he's on the BBAll team next semester

6-5 nfl receivers sure. 6-5 college receivers not so much - unless they are hybrid tight ends like Oronde.

GUMP is 195 - has a good frame already. He is only about 15-20 lbs from what would be a decent playing weight for his size at the next level. Good example- someone like George Pickens who goes 6-3 200 for example.
