Can we give some credit to #11?

That was Hancock, I always thought he was a bish; but man, everyone else on their bench couldn't even look and he jumped up and got on the ground to console Ware, unbelievable reaction by him.

Did Pitino ever console Ware? He seemed more concerned with the guys who were still playing. Maybe he was trying to calm them down or maybe he was acting like it was a time out, I have no idea. I just remember Bob Huggins holding Da'Sean Butler (also against Duke, oddly enough) and how that forever changed my opinion of the guy.

And to think Millhouse almost killed Huggins. Literally.

It looked like Pitino didn't realize it at first, the bench obviously saw it, but Pitino didn't react. CBS then showed Thornton, who definitely saw it, based on his reaction, then by the time they went back to Ware, the training staff was there and Pitino was on the court.

Hard to compare to the Butler situation, if what happened to Ware ahppened to Butler, there is no way Huggins hugs him like that. UofL players were passing out and throwing up, I can't blame Pitino for not being there right away, you HAD to left the medical staff do their thing first.

Pitino is staying overnight with some of the staff. He is at the hospital tonight for the surgery, and then to see him in the morning before flying home. He seems very supportive now, and got updates during the game. It sounds from the description that he was with him part of the time. Also that Ware asked for his teamates to come over before he was taken out. I think Rick did a great job of holding his team together. This was extremely traumatic for all of them. I saw the picture, and immediately had to look away. The players were right there. They could not look away the way I did with the picture. Lots of victims for Rick to attend to. I heard some players vomited. Ware was with a lot of medical staff most of the time. Also he was right by the bench, so we didn't need to see Rick come to him because he was right there.
I also had a new respect for Pitino after hearing his comments after the game. And to see that man cry was humbling.

Not saying Pitino had to hug him, but he could have at least knelt down and said something.

Im struggling to see where else you are going with this then. It's ridiculous.

What's ridiculous is you standing there with that torch. I guess some people just live to tear others down...

Something like this, there is more than 1 right way to act. Pitino tried, I think, to help as many as he could. What could he do for Ware? That was being handled by medical- nothing he could add. This does seem like some bashing.
Many of us would have vomited and run- he used his head and provided for his team as best he could.

Everybody reacts differently to a crisis like this. I've heard Coach K called a cry-baby, that Pitino was too cold or his tears were fake, blah blah. Jesus Christo, amigos.
Not sure there is a reaction that anyone there - of any authority - could have had that wouldn't be misinterpreted.

Look, Ware wasn't dead or going to be. He was conscious. He had probably the finest and most immediate medical attention anyone short of a pro-ball player could have had.
Therefore the game was going to go on.
Tell you what... I go down like that, I want ONE (maybe) non-medical guy (aka teammate) consoling me and the rest of the people "taking up my air" either sticking needles in me or wrapping bandages on me. As far as the teammates go, I'd expect them to be within earshot, but a few feet away and I'd be telling them to focus on the game (and apparently Ware was doing just that).

Also, CBS stopped showing the replays - no need to repeat it for us after all, there is Youtube.

Then the Cards went on to kill Duke (never a bad thing).

All in all it was handled just about right.

Yes. You did. Stop.

Really? Show me where I said something - anything - disparaging about Pitino. I found his behavior odd, but it's not like I'm sitting here calling him a slimeball for it. You guys are overreacting.

The thing is, there was nothing odd about how he reacted. Were you on the court with him? Did you see things from his perspective? How is he supposed to act? It's too bad Pitino couldn't have acted, in the aftermath of such a tremendous injury, in a way that would satisfy the unwritten rules that King Otis finds acceptable.

Give me a break. Some people just live to tear others down. Give it up dude.

i agree. ridiculous response by some people to try and judge pitino on how he responded.

So I take it you can't show me where I said something disparaging about him.

The irony is that I'm not the one judging.

"I found his behavior odd" thats not a judgment?

listen, we all say stuff people disagree w. ive done it on here before as well. just give it up because it will only snowball.

Odd doesn't have to be a negative. You guys are responding to what you think I meant, not what I actually said.

Anyway:

That's all I was looking for.

I think they are talking about this post:

"Not saying Pitino had to hug him, but he could have at least knelt down and said something."

I believe, upon further review, you were just questioning if he did or didnt help him...

But reading just that line I put in quotes prior to the post just above, it looks like you already "knew" he didnt console him and are tearing him down. I am pretty sure that's the way everyone else read it as well.

I loathe Hancock for his style of play on the court BUT he seems like the type of player you'd love to have on your team or love to hate if you're playing against him. We've had a few of those ourselves.

Hats off to the kid for being able to step up and be there for his team mate in a time of need. I wouldn't have been able to go near most likely. I wouldn't have been able to stomach it and what's seen cannot be unseen in situations like that.
